Counting down the days to thursday afternoon and our first trip out this year. It's been a long time since Sept with the van sat on the drive saying "use me use me".

Just got to vacuum inside and stock up the wine cellar.

Yes, we are off to Alencon when my wife gets back from Tesco's. There's a web weather report that says UK temperature could drop to minus 8 in some places by the weekend and apart from rain and high winds there could be snow and ice in places!

Take care everybody!

If the crowds of folk in Towsure,Sheffield on Sunday are anything to go by, there are an awful lot of caravanners taking their first trip of the year this coming weekend.

Just think, you can all huddle together like penguins trying to keep warm.

At least there's little chance of your Easter eggs melting!

Us? We'll leave it another couple of weeks for the ice and snow to clear.

If you are going away,enjoyselves.....and be careful out there.

We won't be cancelling our trip but I am concerned as the forecast for friday shows winds of 29mph with gusts of 56mph, I'm not travelling too far and will stay off the motorways so hopefully I'll be ok.

Any tips for caravanning in the cold though as this will be the first time we've been away and known it would be so cold, extra blankets are already on board! Any tips for the water/gas - we currently use flogas and the site is reasonably sheltered if the winds the right way....

Any tips greatfully appreciated!

Thanks

Angela

Rosies,Alencon is in France,I think still Normandy where many tank battles took place and there are many monuments to this including battered American tanks.

Hi Angela

We went away in February (half term) to the FOrest of Dean. The overnight temp was dropping to around -8C. Yes the aquaroll did form a skin of ice by morning, but it never stopped the pump from working. I think what may have helped was the fact that the aquaroll was between the van and car, and I made sure the car was parked as close as practical to give it some shelter.

I think at this time of year, especially with daytime temps going well above freezing you should not have any major problems with frozen water/pipes. Having said that, some wet swimming gear we left in the awning one evening was frozen solid by the morning!

We had no gas problems as we are on propane.

Don't forget the winter vent covers for the fridge. Supposedly they stop the refridgerant from freezing.

Cheers

David
