Recommendations and contact information please for a bike carrier that is attached to the car via the coupling bolts and avoids straps.

Bikes are able to be carried at the same time as the caravan is hitched to the car, and avoids straps.

The part attached to the coupling bolts has two square hollow tubes about 20mm long welded to a backing plate.

I have seen them but am unsure if they are commercailly available or if they were man made.

Thanks

Have a look at Maxxraxx, available through www.roofbox.co.uk, they have an optional piece to add which lifts the bikes another foot in the air, away from the coupling.

Gretings,

Your only problem with such a system is that the bike carrier is imposing a load on the towbar bracket.

As such, any load imposed by the bikes will have to be taken into account as to the total load imposed by the caravan.

OK if you have a big beefy 4x4 with a towbar that can stand 100kgs but otherwise you may find the caravan has insufficient noseweight.

Hi Barry I have just sold my car & caravan for a motorhome, so I have a lot of second hand equipment for sale, including a bike-rack in good condition. It fits onto the tow bar and carries 4 bikes, of course I have all the fiting from my old car. My mobil is 07977136241. All of my second hand equipment is of good quality

Don't under estimate emmitdb point about the weight.

According to Halfords web site adult bikes on average weigh about 13Kg, so four bikes totals at 52Kg plus the weight of the actual bike rack, it s going to be in the region of 60Kg which must be added to the nose load of the caravan to establish the total load on the towing bracket

Most saloons only have a maximum bracket load of 75Kg, that will leave only about 15Kg for the trailer nose load which would be illegal. The EU regulations require a minimum trailer nose load of 25 Kg or 4%of MTPL which ever is greater.

If you have a greater towing bracket limit (e.g. Landrover Disco's seem to have a150Kg limit) then you may have greater scope.
