Rear Mounted Cycle Carriers

I am after some advice regarding rear mounted cycle carriers (not tow bar mounted). If i use one of these carriers whilst towing will i be putting too much weight/pressure on the rear axle? therefore would i have to reduce the noseweight of the caravan to stick to the 75kg limit? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I have two roof mounted carriers for mine and my wifes bikes as well as a roofbox for all of the awning bits and pieces, so i am looking at the possibility of a rear mounted carrier for two kids bikes as they get a little too big to be slung in the boot.

Hello Lee,

The short and simple answer is yes. You must consider the additional load on the rear axle, but as the carrier is not using the towbar then the nose weight allowance is still valid for the caravan.

As ever always check the weight limits specification of your car/caravan with the relevant dealers or manufactures.
