I know this was discussed in previous posts but could anyone pass on any suppliers who do the full kit i.e:- 5 / 7 inch screen, colour day/night camera and all cables etc. within the uk.

Looked on e-bay but they are all Hong Kong direct suppliers, not to sure about that plus I believe you can be charged extra by customs and excise when brought into the uk.

This company had some nice bits and pieces on offer when I saw them at the motorshow. They do not seem to have what I saw on their website, but may ne worth giving them a call and talking to them. I looked at a pair of remote wireless camera's, monitor etc.

Last week I used my new CCTV camera system for the first time on a 150 mile towing trip. The system comprises a 'standard' circular reverse view 12v CCTV camera fitted into the centre of the rear panel on my Bailey Senator; this is powered by the 12S circuit (which feeds the fridge). A single RCA lead from the camera to the font of the van connected to a small wireless video transmitter (2.4 GHz), plus a second 12v lead from the 12S circuit to power the transmitter ( 8 volts).

In the car, the video receiver to receive the output from the transmitter in the van. This outputs to a 5" (colour) screen which is attached to the dashboard.

When I assembled this kit and tested it, I was impressed. A clear picture from the rear of the caravan which was activated by connecting the 12S lead and starting the engine.

In practice, things did not work out as I had hoped. The fact of the matter is that the camera reacts rapidly to changing light and these changes result in extreme variations on the monitor in the car. Adjusting the brightness to see a clear picture one minute, needed to be re-adjusted minutes or seconds later, when the angle of the sun changes. So this is a real problem. Fine if you only want to use the system when stationary; but if you want to use it on the move (as I do), then I fear I may need another type of camera?

The other issue I have is that the camera is super wide angle. This means that a vehicle travelling at reasonable distance behind, is indistinguishable; one really needs a camera that reproduces the normal rear view mirror.

Comments welcome; especially from our friend John Glassey (to who I shall email this note separately as he is an old hand at this !)

John I think that you have already realised that the camera is not up to the job you require.

I would contact a specialist such as Conrad Anderson who will be able to supply a better camera but it will be more expensive.

Yes, John G. I fear that you are right (he says gnashing teeth and adding up the money spent on this project so far ....)

Thanks, I'll contact www..conrad-anderson.co.uk and see what they have to say.

John
