Hi all I know this topic keeps comming up but just received quotes for european breakdown cover.

red pennant for single trip is £100
Green flag for full yearly membership in UK and europe = £130

Has anyone ever used green flag in Europe?
I thought red pennant was operated by green flag?

For a difference of £30 i might as well go with green flag rather than take out mayday cover for uk then an additional red pennant policy to cover me whilst abroad.

My daft question is, does this seam right or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any comments
Cheers
John

Hi I have just got a quote from Green Flag for home and European cover for £126.14 to cover my car and my wife's. Reading the small print it seems that every thing is covered. My quote from the AA is £154.50 for uk only plus £104 for european cover. So, although I have been an AA member for about 40 years, I think it is time I dispensed with loyalty and save some cash!

With anything these days, loyalty counts for nothing. The AA and the like are nothing more than insurance companies.
The Green flag home and europe almost seems to good to be true?

Well when we got a quote for car towing an 8 metre caravan from Green Flag they would not cover over 7.50 metre caravans. If we went through CC Red Pennant it was over £300 per year. So we went to ADAC The German Service which costs 98.70 Euro's per year with far more cover than anyone else. Look at my website as in signature below for detailsof this.

It depends what size caravan you have if you go with Green Flag as they only cover up to 7.50 mts long. As for AA being so expensive ADAC is 98.70 Euro's for all singing all dancing cover for all of Europe including the UK. Have used it and the service is excellent.

An extra bonus for those of us with vehicles over ten years old is that ADAC will cover them too.None of the other companies mentioned will do this.
( and both Dianne T and me have had reason to use ADAC this year, and they came up trumps!)

Not if you take MAYDAY cover through the CC.
This is Green Flag with unlimited size and weight, so long as it has a standard sized tow hitch.

Yes that is right but they quoted us over £300 for our 05 Kia Sorento and 8 metre Elddis caravan more than 3 times the price we pay for ADAC (and that was 3 years ago)ADAC price has not gone up and covers much more. As Emmerson states they cover any age vehicle which other Breakdown Clubs do not touch.

Hi all have just noticed this topic on forum, I used Green Flag some years ago when my car broke down in Brittany. Green flag were brilliant they recovered my car and caravan back to Leeds.
Although I had booked with the Caravan Club and stayed on their recommended sites they would not help because I did not have Red Pennant. I stopped using Green flag because my current van was a fraction over their width limit.

You have to go closely into Breakdown for details of cover. Does it include Pets repatriation, for larger Caravans, Falling ill Worldwide with Repatriation by Air, Loss of Money, Spectacles, and Pill's to name some. Take a look at ADAC Cover, if you need it, I can send full details as I have them on my computer.

Agree with the comment that Red Pennant cover is more extensive than breakdown/recovery type competitors such as Green Flag. Each needs to make their own decision on what level of cover is required, because IMHO judged purely as a breakdown/recovery service Red Pennant is more expensive than some of the altermatives. I've had Brittania Rescue european cover for a few years now, which costs under £100 a year as a promotional rate as I'm a CSMA member and has been fine the couple of minor occasions I had to use it. However, I know full well that I'm not getting the "holiday continuation" type features that Red Pennant has, but I accept that risk in return for the lower premiums. Others may take a completely opposite view.

How much persusion do you need? For Euro[pean breakdown/repatriation cover at a decent price you need a European company.

ADAC<ADAC<ADAC<ADAC.
