Explore the insurance options available on the internet - www.thisismoney.com - might be a starting point. Have had breakdown insurance via them for the past two years and find the quotes very competitive, the cover is for home and abroad AND for twelve months. As with all such things read the small print with great care.

I am not sure whether it is the best value but it is certainly good. Having broken down on the way to France a few years ago they towed me to a local CC site overnight, arranged for the car to be picked up the folowing day and taken to a local garage and when the garage confirmed that it was not wise to continue towing, they hired me a new Land Rover Discovery for three weeks. They delivered it from Kent to South Wales and I continued my holiday with the minimum of interruption. Cost of Red Pennant

I suffered a seized towing coupling on my van while staying at Camping California near Perpingnan a couple of years ago, which local French repairers would not tackle. Red Pennant went to great lengths to locate a replacement, fit a new coupling head (so all I had to do was bolt the coupling on), arrange for it to be flown to Perpignan airport, and have it delivered to the site by courier. Great service! It is very easy to compare quotes, but not so easy to compare the services offered; personally I think their annual cover is well worthwhile if you take more than one trip each year.

Red Pennant is not cheap, but excellent value if things go wrong. Two summers ago I broke my foot / ankle. Wife did not fancy driving from South of France. A chauffeur took us from Millau to Sarlat, we continued our holiday, and then a driver was flown over to drive us home a fortnight later with our car & van. They offered a number of options and phoned me constantly to keep us updated. In a word they were brilliant.

I've used Red Pennant for the last twenty years and never had to call on them until this last winter. Car broke down and left me stranded, but within an hour of my phone call, the car was collected on a low loader, and taken forty miles to a workshop, where they were waiting for it. Car was ready next day, and on my return home, I claimed for several phone calls and
