I have been considering a Motor Mover for a while, since our storage space is very tight and my wife struggles to help me.

I think I have decided on the Reich, together with the electronic engagement mechanism. However, I am struggling to find either their official website, or any company offering sale / fitting in the Hampshire area - can anyone help please?

Many thanks in advance.

Vince, if you are having that amount of trouble before you have even bought it,why not go fo a Powrtouch with electronic engagement.

No fuss, all done by a local firm, local engineers who come to you to fit it, and a full 5 year guarantee.

Probably because he sees the merits of its British made motor gearbox units?

Where do the Powrtouch bits come from? Truma I think are Dutch or have I mistakenly bought something that's made in China?

Live and learn.

At the February NEC last year they refused to tell me where from and who's units they where using. That said it all!

However both Reich and Truma use motor gearbox units from the very highly regarded British firm EMD [ http://www.emd.co.uk/].

I have specified quite a bit of industrial equipment in the past from EMD and know from experience that it is good kit.

Hi Vince,

My first mover was a Reich manual with a tommy bar to engage the rollers, Lug snapped within six months and after sales service was pathetic. They sent the wrong part at first telling me I had to fit it myself, then the correct part was sent, but now I had to employ an engineer at my expense to fit it or do it myself. Go for the Powertouch, fitted at your home and a five year, no quibble guarantee. The feedback from others is very positive.

Many thanks everyone, both for the Reich info and your thoughts / comments on alterntives. I intend to do a bit more research before making my final decision, and have asked both companies for best price on supply / fitting etc.

Thanks again,

Vince.

I have the manual reich mover on my 2004 van, its been totally reliable to date, i had the option of the dealer fit reich or power touch, he showed me two one year old vans side by side, i had a good look at both, the powertouch looked to be weathering far more than the reich, perhaps due to the motors being exposed to the road wheel spray?

Anyway the reich had a powder coat finnish, and was according to the dealer german made, so i bought the reich.

The choice is greater now, so i cant honestly say i would buy a reich again, but based on todays condition, i don't expect to need a replacment for some years to come.

I read a article in the cc mag that said all the motors were from the same source?

We have a Reich mover that we have had for a few years now.Various things have gone wrong from time to time BUT we have always had excellent after sales service AND when replacements have been sent we have never been charged for these.

It seems a shame that Bill doesn't seem to share our sentiments.

When we finaly opted for a mover end 2007 We looked at the three main makes and in all honesty I couldn't see much in them. Purely on cost, warranty and aftersales service ( promised but not yet experienced by me) Powrtouch came out the best.

However that doesn't mean the other are no good does it?

Another one for Nigel Donelly's test bag.

Cheers

We have a Reich motor-mover on our Bailey Pageant. It works very well, however I wouldn't fit another one to my next van. The problem is the very low clearence. The unit will always clip a curb before the wheels lifts the van conversly if you run over a pothole the same applies, damage. Those lovely gray cover are very expensive, and make sure you have 2 adjustable spanners to loosen the clamps to move the assembly back to the right place on the chassis. Oh and levelling ramps don't fit under the fronts of the wheels. MartinH

Hi all,

Meant to post a reply ages ago, but you know how it goes!

I eventually went for the heavy duty PowrMover, plus electronic actuator. I phoned them up, and got a pretty decent deal.

They came to the storage yard and fitted it - took about 2 hours. Although they use subcontractors, the guy who attended was very knowledgable and very polite.

The 5 year warranty was a major bonus, and since I've used it a number of times now, I feel qualified to give it an A+ rating!

It easily moved the van up a fairly steep, very muddy bank over the easter weekend and makes light work of the very tight space in the storage yard.

Also, hitching up (which is on a steep downward slope whilst at the yard) is now a doddle.

All in all, very happy with my choice.

Vince
