Remote sensor for Truma space heater

There seems to be a remote sensor available to fit onto the control switch for Truma heaters. This would perhaps enable me to overcome the problem of the control being mounted right above a heating duct and therefore switching off the heat before the whole van is warm - quite a common fault which I have noticed in vans of various makes. Fitting such a senson should be less trouble than relocating the main switch unit.

I have put as much insulation between duct and cotrol as possible but this has not cured the problem completely.

Has anyone fitted such a sensor - how easy is it, and did it work. ? Thanks for any info.

Hello Ray,

This problem was quite large about 18 to 24 months ago. The dealers were told of a fix which involved relocating the sensor. I am not sure of the details, but perhaps a word with your dealer might not only tell you where to place the sensor, but might also get the work done under Sale of goods warranty.

Your statutory rights require the seller to supply new goods fit for purpose, if a fault was present at the time of sale, and history shows that this was the case as many others have encountered the issue, then you should be entitled to the remedial work.

As John says you may get it done under warranty but it's a very simple job to do yourself, as little as five minutes! depending on access to the back of the heater. Heres a link to a few pictures, a couple of which show where the remote plugs in and where to attach the sensor itself

Thanks Gary and other - useful link. Not really a warranty matter to me, and anyway it will cost me more in diesel for two return trips to the dealer than the stat is likely to cost. Many thanks.
