Removal of Masti sealant from van body work - help please

HELP PLEASE

A previous owner sealed a dummy vent (to hide a scratch) on the van. I have since removed the plastic vent but I am left with dried mastic sealant stuck to the van's paintwork. Any recommendations on how I can get the sealant off please? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Thank you

Hi, I have found that WD40 is a good solvent for mastic. I have used it to get rid of mastic "splashes on new vans.
Be sure not to get it on any mastic joints etc you do not want removing

When I installed a Heki to replace an old cracked rooflight on a previous caravan I used a plastic scraper similar to the type used to clean ice from inside freezers. This removed the lines of old hardened mastic and then I cleaned the area thoroughlt using a cloth dipped in white spirit.
This removed all traces of the old mastic and allowed me to install my Heki on a bed of fresh mastic.

A very good product to use is one used by the paint spray re-finishing workshops, called "Panel Wipe" it is a highly volatile degreaseant, removes most adhesives, but will not damage any paintwork,or for that matter any plastic, I always use it as a prewash before spraying, trouble is it can only be had in 5ltr cans at about £15.00.but on the garage shelf I find it very usefull.Hope this helps.Regards Cliff.
