The pull down door on the freezer compartment in the fridge won't stay shut, it seems there may be a spring broken somewhere but nowhere that I can see.

Does anyone know if they are repairable or am I going to have to wedge it closed with a lump of cardboard as I've been doing recently.

I had the same problem with my freezer door, one of the small white plastic rectangular pivot fitting on the side of the hinge had revolved round therefore releasing some of the spring tension. I pushed the plastic piece back into position with a screwdriver and secured it using what is known as a split sided pop rivet 3/16 diam. These rivets are not the normal type of pop rivet they are a very soft aluminium rivet with split side that when used the sides split open forming a star shape on the blind side, these are used when the materials are soft eg plastic, where as a normal one might pull through when squeezed up to snap the pin. If this is your problem I have quite a few of these rivets if you cannot locate any

As the others said, it is probably the plastic hinge that has distorted. This happened to us. We did buy a replacement, but had to take the old one in to the local dealer, so that they could be sure they were ordering the right part. It cost about
