Replacement tyres

I wonder if anyone with a bit of tyre knowledge can help. My tyres on my Sterling 460 (MTPLM 1295 kg ) are 5 years old and I want to change them. Tyre size is 195 x 70 load/speed rating 91 T. I want to get maximum ply rating/reinforcing and am looking for the best tyre and fitter, as I know that some of them do not like Tyrons. Any ideas very welcome!

That shouldn't be a difficult question, but as for fitter - local knowledge is probably best.

You should be aware that the tyre sidewall makes up a fair percentage of the suspension to a caravan, so fitting excessively stiff tyres will have an adverse effect on the interior of the van.

Rather than worry about ply rating, your primary concern should with the load index - and buy a well known brand.

Reinforced tyres have a strengthened sidewall for bumping up and down kerbs - you may or may not want to fit those. Likewise a commercial tyre, such as the GT Radial Maxmiler, is a common white van fitment - but is meant to carry much heavier loads and could well be too still for a caravan.

Hello Rob,

Thanks for your quick response. I think that I was getting confused between ply ratings and reinforced tyres. So what I need to look for is a good name, reinforced walls, and a load rating to match what I currently have....91. I think that most of the national tyre companies can handle Tyrons - but they don't like doing so!
