Replacing a gas bottle

Hi

Guess who forgot to take the empty gas bottle out of the van when we sold it??

If I take a large empty orange bottle to a retailer and ask if I can exchange it for a full smaller blue bottle (locker size), do you think they might exchange it?

I am under the impression that if not, you have to pay something like £25 hire charge.

Thanks

Lisa

Hello Lisa,

The possibility of exchange depends on which companies bottles you have. I understand, and have my self, exchanged Calor propane for butane of different sizes and vice versa without problems. Other suppliers may have different exchange policies.

Check with your supplier.

Thanks they sell different types at Morrisons, they also sell them at a campsite just up the road.

I'll give it a go tomorrow.

hi lisa

Just do what we did take the large orange one to the local recycling centre and swap it for a blue one(they normally have a few there) then take the "new" blue one and get it changed for a full one at your normal place 😉 just a idear for you

Hi lisa,

Oh if only you lived closer, i have a spare 7.5 blue in my garage My last two caravans that i have part exchanged I acquired two 7.5 kg with each van, managed to part with one which still leaves me with a spare , which i will never use.

Calor Gas may have changed their policy now but 2 years ago we decided to swop from Blue Butane to Red Propane gas for winter caravanning. What a fuss we had.

Calor said we could not exchange different types of Calor cylinders and the caravan dealer I bought my van from also said it was against the rules. Calor Gas went as far as to say they would take the old cylinders off my hands with no refund, because the original lease contract was over 7 years ago. They would happily charge me for the new cylinders.

However, I went to another caravan dealer who said they would swop them over. As far as they were concerned as long as it was Calor any exchange was ok with them.

Needless to say when we come to exchange our van you know which dealer we will go to first!

The moral of the story is shop around.
