Sorry if this is a dumb question but is it possible to get a rear camera for a caravan which enables you to see whats behind you while towing rather than a reversing one? I see lots of adverts for motor home cameras but none for caravans.

Thanks in advance

Hi Monica.

No it's not a dumb question and the answer is:- yes of course.

Never understood the mentallity of spending loads of money on a reversing camera for the few seconds of actual reversing and then driving for thousands of miles forward without knowing whats behind you.

The only reason they are refered to as reversing canmeras is that (I'm going to get lynched here) the vast majority of people arn't interested in what is behind them and simply look at whats in front or beside.

If you fit a camera and screen that is only switched on when you select reverse. Then it will be a reversing camera.

If however you fit the same equipment but have it powered permanantly then it becomes a rear vision camera.

Had one for three years now and wouldn't tow without it.

Regards Brian...

Like Brian I have had rear view cameras on the caravan for several years

I started with a CCTV(car boot) pointing out through the back window and progressed through 2 different small round bullet cameras to the present rectangular one on the outside of the caravan. They have all been colour and the previous one had sound as well before it started to let water in and mist up!

There are two types of camera system CCD and CMOS and both are said to be the best by those who sell them

To be fair my present CMOS is slightly inferior in picture colour quality to the previous CCD but then at

Have you tried it on the road

I know of a guy who has the wireless variety and he was able to read the security cameras en route

He was even able to tell a travelling companion how much diesel he had bought.

He quite enjoyed seeing himself driving through a town when he picked himself up via CCTV cameras

I hope that you have better luck(not a sarcastic comment)
