Rising Prices

Hi All

Anyone noticed the back door price rises being introduced or increased, where there were no extra's such as dog prices, awnings etc, there is now, or where there were prices for the above they have increased way above normal.

Lasy year we went to a site, a long weekend (thur - tues) the cost was less than £150, this year £178.

Std pitch, 2 dogs, porch awning, price has gone up over £30.

I do have to add this is not a CC site, the CC have kept their prices reasonable and affordable.

Out of 15 or so sites we looked at for a 10 day stay, prices ranged from £210 to well over £300.

Hi Richard.

I agree there are certain sites realising revenue by charging for individual items where in the past they have given an all in price. Furthermore , they don't seem to of lowered the basic pitch & 2 adults price to balance the scale of charges so that the average 2.4 family don't have any significant increase.

We caravan full time and as you can imagine getting the best value for our buck is top priority. We have found a very quiet 4* site that offers a very good deal on the seasonal pitch that includes awning, bedroom annex, free of dog charges and a 1/4 acre dog run. But we do pay 50p per 15 min shower,

I think you're being a bit unfair here Richard.

These site owners have huge costs involved in running their sites, and just like living at home, THEIR gas heating costs (for showers and washing) will have risen, as will their rateable values, their electricity costs, their water bills, staff wages, facilities and all the rest of it. Running a site is a very expensive exercise.

If they didn't pass on at least some of these costs, they would go out of business, and then the site would close. How ould that help anyone?

I think we all have to be realistic about this. Nobody likes to pay out more for anything, but that's the reality of it with this deadbeat government that is wrecking the UK at the moment.

Shop around.........but be fair.... give these people a chance to make a living.

It's inflation - in the final analysis all costs are made up of raw material plus value added labour costs.

The fundamental problem is that everyone expects a cost of living increase on their income but then wonder why the price of everything goes up next year.

Just remember that your salary/wage/benefit/pension increase is someone else's increased price - and vice versa.

Ray - 0.1%? Is that a mixture of flat rate and indexed?

Whilst there are exceptions, almost everyone seems to want/demand a "cost of living" increase which just continues the upward spiral.

Could be that all the press that caravanning is getting, that it's the in thing, shortage of second hand vans, Manufactures with full order books or so we are told and the new buzz word the staycation.

That's got to lead to a few Arthur Daley's knocking about, ready to do the business, won't belong before we see sites charging for leaving, only joking watch this space.

Hi All.

We haven't used comercial sites for the last three years or so because of the high prices that some do charge.

We are menbers of the c&cc & use their (THS) Temporary holiday sites, some of these sites have a few EHU,but many don't,so elec needs rely on battery power/solar pannel etc,we are quite able to mannage well above a week on the afore mentioned.

The c&cc have THS sites in some very nice locations arround the country, these have basic amenities, but at the end of the day you make your choice & get what you pay for.

We have never paid more than

I have to agree the cost of caravaning is rising at a rate which is faster than inflation, it would appear that since the recession?... and the fact that caravaning and camping has become more popular, the site owners have jumped at the chance and put up prices. I am not suggesting they dont make a living or even a profit, but where does it end.

Last weekend we pulled up on a site in West lothian two nights

We haven't actually put our prices up this year so hope its ok for me to pass comment as a park owner. I can understand why parks have to put their prices up - our electric has just gone up of 4p PER unit, our waste collections have just gone up 7%, our business rates have gone up and the price of gas (to us) has just gone up

I agree with RobinHood Caravan Park, our business charges have gone up 3 times more than inflation, blame Gordon Brown and his cronies who are reaping the benefits from higher prices on gas and a electric to retrieve the money load out to the greedy bankers and such like.

Wait after the general election for more hidden taxes if they get in.

Spent a few hours yesterday on the look out for some more CLs to visit, found one which isn't cheap but sounds ok, put that down for a recon, was interested in another CL, until we phoned for the prices, nothing on site bar fishing nearby, price for fishing (this is lincolnshire, not the canary islands)

The bottom line is that almost everything has increased in price, not just caravanning. Sites are businesses, not charities. They have to make a profit or they simply won't be there next year.

Look at the real cost of a week away and you'll find it enlightening to say the least. Petrol, Gas, site fees etc; they're all going up, not just site fees. I think they call it gross mismanagement of the economy and we all know what to do about that little gem.

I would agree that bottled gas is something which irks me a lot. I just paid

We have a CL site, albeit in Spain, in the 7 odd years we've been here we haven't increased our prices, but what we have had to do is to start charging for electric seperately, we have found that because modern vans/vanners carry so much more in the way of electrical appliances we were on the verge of losing money, we only charge the same tariff that we pay and it has stopped people going out and leaving on heaters/air-con and lights etc, we also can't understand why any site charges for pets, they don't use any of the facilities, and as long as their owners pick-up any mess, no problem.

What inflation and what wage increases?
