Hello,

Molly & I are pensioners - I'm 79, Molly is younger - and we have caravanned for 40 years. We live in Carluke, a small town in South Lanarkshire, have two sons, a daughter, one grandaughter and five grandsons.

We have never had a new caravan and only once a new car (never again!) and we usually keep a caravan for up to 10 years. Present outfit is a 1992 Elddis Hurricane 200EX towed by a 5 year old 1.8 Mondeo Zetec. The particular model of caravan and its date were deliberately chosen as what best suited our needs and was purchased in March this year after we sold our 1993 Avondale Perle Orestes SE which we had had for 10 years. The extra size of the Hurricane obviates the need for an awning for stays of up to a week but we do have a Dorema porch awning for longer stays. The extra space of a full sized awning was really necessary with the Orestes.

Mostly we caravan in the Scottish Highlands and, occasionally, in the Lake District (getting a bit crowded these days) but we prefer to be among the hills and mountains.

I only discovered this forum yesterday and I think it is brilliant. Aleady friendly advice has been offered as to how I might deal with a problem of condensation between the acrylic "glasses" of a window. Great!

Welcome to the Forum site Rob and Molly.

It is always good to hear of folks like yourselves who still enjoy caravanning, and hope you will continue to do so.

Perhaps you can recommend some suitable sites in the Highlands where it is possible to watch Eagles in their natural habitat?

Hi Rob & Molly - your introduction is an insperation to us younger members of the forum. I was aiming at an age of 75 as the cut off for our touring days but you have given me greater faith even though I am now approaching 61 years of age. All I can say is welcome to the forum and have many more happy years of touring. The area you tour is also not the best of areas for towing as I should imagine it is very undulating, twisty and narrow roads. I admire your outward spirit - good luck to you both.

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the welcome to the forum.

We do have some twisty roads in the Highlands and some single track roads too but we also have some of the best engineered roads in the U.K. and not so crowded as down south. The single track roads engender a courtesy not seen elsewhere.

Rob.

Hi Moderator2,

Thanks for your welcome.

We have seen eagles from the National Trust Caravan Site in Glen Coe, in Glen Nevis where there is a very good site and up in the Ben Eighe Nature Reserve (based on the Caravan Club Site at Kinlochewe)

Rob & Molly.
