I really need some help in installing this set up. Following the instructions, when I connect the camera and monitor to the same 12v source, the image appears...no problem. When I separate the two, monitor in a cigarette socket and the camera connected directly to the battery with an inline fuse and switch , the camera refuses to pair up; even though they are basically powered by the same source, ie. the leisure battery. The suppliers even sent a new camera and it still doesn't work. I'm getting 13.7v at the camera connection. They did say that the leds should light up if I look at the camera in the dark and they don't. Any thoughts, gents/ ladies?

Hello energyman,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not familiar with the camera system you are trying to fit. The symptoms suggest the camera is not receiving power. But your report does raise some of thoughts from an electrical perspective. What you describe might be explained by a poor or high resistance connection in the wiring

Some basic checks. Such as checking all the wires have been connected to the correct polarity and are making good contact. Wiring in caravans does not always follow colour and polarity conventions.

It surprised me when you tell us your measuring 13.7V at the cameras connection. 13.7V is a charging voltage for a leisure battery. Was the battery being charged at the time? Depending on the design of the mains charger, some older models can output peak voltages in excess 20V. Some electronic systems may shut down if excess voltage is detected. Try it without the charger?

Secondly, did you probe the connector with or without the camera being plugged in? It would be worth checking the voltage at the connection when camera is plugged in, Or using a small side light 12V incandecent bulb to see if the circuit can deliver adequate current without dropping the voltage too much.

Hi Prof.,
The battery was being charged at the time, I have to say. I probed the connector without the camera being plugged in and got the 13.7v reading. All the wiring was done by a qualified caravan tech, so I'm assuming the polarities are correct. The only part of the process that may have a bearing is that when you try the pairing, the connection of the camera to the power supply has to be broken for a few seconds and reconnected to the camera in the 20 seconds of the pairing process. I have tried this loads of times, thinking this may be the problem, but alas nothing! It's a bit baffling. I will try without the charger. That may be a good call and I'll also check with a 12v bulb. Many thanks.
