Hi there and a happy new year to all.

2010 sees the launch of Roma Caravans new range. We are doing a pre launch at the Milton Keynes show on 7th - 10th January in Central Milton Keynes in Middleton Hall.

Reading previous entries into the forum I understand the concern regarding the width of a Roma Caravan (commonly 8ft). Please be aware that Roma Caravans have started to make a 7'6" wide model. Unfortunately we will not have one ready for Milton Keynes but we are also showing at the NEC show in February. We will have our first 7'6" to display here and we are very excited about doing so.

Roma Caravans are based on the Bedfordshire/ Hertfordshire border in the picturesque hamlet of Higham Gobion. This is where we build each part of our caravans as well as doing all the upholstery and designing.

We have out new website on the way and I will be happy to send anyone who wishes out 2010 brochure.

If you have and questions, queries or comments then please reply to this thread or email me personally on sa@romacaravans.com.

Many thanks,

Stuart Aitken

Stuart, thank you for the information, and for taking on board the concerns regarding legal towing width of vans, and taking the step to produce 7ft6in models.

Having worked on some of your wider vans, I hope you manage to make the smaller ones just as luxurious and well built.

Congratulations on the new venture.

Thank you for the kind words.

After a stressful Wednesday night we got our stand set up and left at 1am!!

Had a very good first two days and some really good feedback. Its great to see peoples mind opening to see there really is more out there and we literally can build whatever they want.

Am looking forward to the NEC next month and the MK show continues to be a massive learning curve.

We have on show our purpose built Roam 23ft Sullivan Special and our two brand new 19ft and 25ft GTS. Please see link below for a little taster. Is really true what the reporter say's, Roma are like nothing else on the market.

As i say after MK the NEC awaits and I will look forward too seeing you all and showing you the new range including our very first 7'6" 23ft GTS with full bathrooms.

Thanks again,

Stuart

Stuart you may be interested to know if you don't already that the UK looks as if it is going to fall in line with the EU and allow 2.55m wide caravans to be towed lgally on our roads with a normal 4 x 4. There is a consulatation paper in progre3ss at the moment.

Thanks Ian.

I am aware of this so let's hope it all goes well.

A good yet somewhat frustrating day at the show today.

Roma produce caravans which are built to client specifications. This means we build WHATEVER our clients want. We are showing vans at MK, none of which have a bathroom. This is because they are 8ft wide vans. Normally you would permantly site one of these. Due to no bathroom you get a much greater living space as demonstrated perfectly on the 25ft GTS. The vast majority of sites these days have superb brick built facilities for use during the day. And if you need to go quickly at night, you set up a toilet tent next to your van. The space saved by doing this is amazing. However, people do not understand this concept and seem to be somewhat ignorant towards this and more towards what Roma are trying to achive.

We build BESPOKE, basically, if you want a toilet YOU CAN HAVE ONE!!!!

However, there are also some fantastic people who come along. The people who appriciate what we are doing and when they walk into one of our vans are in awe of what we have done. I would like to say these greatly out number the ignorant people.

I'm sorry about having a rant. I am just sure that when the people on this site see a roma in the ally/ fiberglass you will truely appriciate what we do. I mean a british manufacturer that hand builds their product in Britain. Surely people can appriciate that at least and understand that when you are standing there, being not constructive, but really quite rude with the critisim that its not mearly a case of insulting our product, but its insulting something we are immensely proud of and into each caravan our blood sweat (and occasional tear!!!) goes into building our vans.

Right rant over, now time to relax and prepare for tomorrow.

Be grat if one or two of you came to see :).

stuart, are ye coming to the secc in glasgow in feb ?
Sorry Highlander Glasgow is just too far out for us at the moment. I would happily invite you to our factory to come and see where and how we build them but I guess at the moment (especially with the weather as unpredictable as it is) that you will have the same difficulties.

However if you want to the please contact me on sa@romacaravans.com.

Many thanks,

Stuart

Stuart we are in throes of moving into our touring caravan on a permanent basis as living in brick and mortar is becoming very expensive. The site we have chosen to live on although it does have toilets and shower which is chargeable at 50p a time, we prefer to use our own facilities. On the touring site the big Hobbys are very popular and there are several of them as there is no real alternative at this time. At least with a Hobby one can go look at one and see the toilet/washroom in place etc whereas with the Roma you have to imagine it whicbh may be the reason by folk may be put off. This is not a crticism but just an observation.

Hi Stuart. Good to see your post and hopefully, like Andy and Ash at Swift you will stick around. Take your point that if folks want a toilet, you will put one in, but seriously is there anyone out there who doesn't? We stay at sites with good facilities but if I had really wanted to leave the van to walk to the toilet block or even the toilet tent at 3 o'clock in the morning I would have saved myself 13k+ and stayed with the tent. I'm sure your firm has spent thousands on market research whereas I am just sat on me sofa talking from the top of my head, but are you sure the market researchers have got it right?

all the best

I appriciate all your feed back.

I know the concept of a van with no toilet may be somewhat strange but we are just showing examples of vans without them. Having to pay for site facilities seems a tad cheeky.

For the 3am toilet stop you could always use a toilet. However we at Roma are not trying to recreate the wheel. As a matter of personal opinion, would i prefer a van with a toilet? Yes I would.

So now our first exhibition has drawn to a close. We had mixed feedback, some very good, some very bad (thankfuly the good outweighed the bad). Some of the main points raised. I have got the impression that with caravanning people feel that they cant have a 'home away from home'. I don't feel this is the case anymore.

We will be showing at NEC in February and this will be the official launch of our new Roma model which is still hand built but is to a design by Roma Caravans. This will contain our unique French doors and full bathroom. Exact specifications are yet to be confirmed but on behalf of Roma Caravans I would like to invite you to our stand at the NEC.

If you wish to accept this invite then please email me on sa@romacaravans.com and I will arrange for complimentary tickets for you at the NEC show.

Many thanks,

Stuart
