Do you have the above by any chance?

We have a Seat Alhambra and want to carry 2 adult bikes and a roof rack, we have recently seen a car with this but we have tried different websites and found them confusing.

What size of roof box might be be looking for and also is it better to but aero bars as opposed to steel?

Any advice greatly appreciated as we are so tired of putting the biles in van. Thanks, Brenda

Sounds as though you want to carry quite a lot on the roof of the car. Nothing wrong with that so long as you stay within the allowable limit of 75kg (including the weight of the roof rack).

Hi Lutz, yes aware of weight, thats why was thinking about the aerobars and also roof box would be for 2 buggies and lighter items. Surely would be better than carrying the bikes on back of car? Do you think this is not a good idea (weightwise)? Thanks in advance..

Brenda,

Contact www.roofbox.co.uk. They are a very helpful company based in Sedbergh in the Lake District. I have bought a couple of boxes from them, the second one to replace the original which was damaged when a friend opened the box in VERY windy conditions and didn't keep hold of the lid! Sometimes you can get good deals on returned boxes.

So long as you don't have a weight problem with the roof rack and you can get the bikes up there without any difficulty (considering your car being relatively tall), the roof is about the best place to have the bikes.

HI Brenda. Yes I have the exact same on my car. Nissan Primera Estate. I bought the roofbox from halfords, it is called Exodus and is a half width full length roof box. I carry my full awning, folding chairs and carry chef in this. It is amazing how much you can pack in this. I bought the Thule roof bars (non aero)and Thule bike carriers, cant reccommend these enough. I carry two adult bikes on top, one facing handlebars frontwards and one with handlebars to the rear. I do however have to undo the handlebars with an allen key and turn them sideways as they catch on the saddle of teh other bike. It is ideal for me and leaves so much room in boot and puts the weight on the car instead of the van. I can supply more details if you want when I get home. Where did you see this, it could have been me.

Hi Brenda, no it wasnt me. Decided on the non aero bars as the steel ones are stronger and they matched my black bike carrier and black thule cycle carriers. If you are carrying a roof box and 2 bikes then having aerodynamic roof bars seems a bit pointless. I have not had any issues with noise with the roof box and bikes off. Cheers

Brenda,

About seven years ago I bought a long thin 'ski' box from Halfords which left space for two bike racks - one facing front, one rear - on a Volvo 740 estate.
