Does anyone use a roof cover, Riversway Leisure sell them and i am toying with the idea of buying one. Should stop the evil water ingress without causing damp like a full cover. Opinions would be appreciated.

Hello Steve,
Damp ingress is symptomatic of leaking roof or other joints, A cover may prevent water getting to a leak track, but it won't cure the problem. As soon as you remove the cover and you get rained on, then you will get ingress.

If you have a water ingress problem, its far better to get it sorted propery.

Full covers are sometimes accused of causing dam, but again, the cover its self is not to blame.Damp and condensation are sympomatic of insufficent ventilation. Keep the van well ventilated and the problem goes away or is at least managable.

Hi Doog,
Never used a roof cover so this is not from any first hand experience. My main concern would be how are these covers fastened or held in place, would they in windy conditions be liable to move about with either the cover or it's fastening straps or whatever, mark/damage the caravan paintwork. As I said no experience of them myself and the manufacturers might well have sussed this problem out but something I would look into before purchasing.

Tried one for a while, but the problem is holding it on in anything of a wind. Straps are awkward to pass under the van and can easily chafe, while bungees can be hooked on to the chassis or underframe but also have hooks which can easliy cause damage if not well padded up. Came to the conclusion it was more liability than asset.
My main purpose was to keep the top of the van fairly clean from leaf stain etc. I now polish the roof with a good thick coat but don't buff it all off again - this washes down very easliy. There is also an overwintering solution from Fenwicks which probably does a better job. Neither will help if yo have any water seepage problems - as others have said, these need to be fixed as quickly as possible to avoid interior damp and rot.
