Rosyth to Zeebrugge with DFDS

Went online this morning to find out the return fare on the above route to see if it would work out any cheaper that traveling from Dundee to Dover.Never went on the previous operator (Superfast) as they were too expensive.

Did not really expect too much and was not disapointed. They only quote including cabin !! So for our Nissan and Bailey caravan 12.5mtrs in length the fare quoted was £770 plus £30 for our dog total £800 return NO WAY !

To drive at easy pace to Dover, distance 525 mls at 25 mpg = 21 gallons of diesel at £4.20 Approx gallon = £86.94 plus DFDS to Dunkirk £122 including dog return a saving of £504.12 !!

So sod the carbon footfrint whats left will give us enough to pay our sites for the whole month of may that we are away.

Rip off or what !! Anyone any other rip off stories ?

Go onto the DFDS site and when booking try for prices on a Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

On most of these sailings the caravan goes free and should cost in the region of

How about a caravan goes free day on the Newcastle to Ijmuiden route? While it may seem expensive compared with the cost of diesel it does away with the cost of meals and an overnight en-route.

Triker,

Have you priced P&O Hull to Zeebrugge? Not as cheap as using the Dover crossing but does cut down on the driving. We used it a couple of times after pricing the Superfast from Rosyth. Another benefit compared to The Rosyth crossing was that the ferry docked quite sharp in the morning ( either 7 or 8am) compared to the Superfast's mid day arrival. Meant you got a good start and further down the road before having to make an overnight stop.
