Stayed overnight at Neufchatel en Brey on tuesday night then joined the A29 Rouen diversion, no problems with signage to traverse Rouen, we went thru at 10.30 hours and the traffick was light. Toll cost with 'van was €2.40, a small price to pay for getting thru this bottleneck with the few exra added kilometers.
I would just add as my point of view, I went several years ago on the 'other' suggested route down to the Pont de l'Arche crossing, the road surface was horrendious and not caravan friendly!!

Thanks very much for that Merlin. I had a dreadful journey via Pont de l'Arche a few weeks back and did wonder about the route you have suggested. I will try that later this year.

Hi Merlin53
We will be going from Calais to Neufchatel en Bray in June on our way to Brittany. What route do you recommend ?
Thanks in advance.

I must admit we use the Pont de l'Arche route without any problems at all - at least four times a year, two going south, and two coming back north again! We don't find any problem with the road surface, and nothing 'dreadful' about that way at all. I admit it's not 'motorway' standard, but for us tightwads it gets us south without spending a penny on tolls.

We use the A16 out of Dunkirk, past Calais, then join the A28. The toll with a van is €12.10, but it saves a lot of hassle going thru the small villages etc that we used to do on our first travels to France using the N1. I would stick to the motorway network for the first part of your journey as there is some very steep hills in Normandy that will just 'gobble up' the fuel.
On a different tack, I have just bought our first 'alcohol test kit', price at the local Super U was €1.59, big difference from DFDS and UK prices!

Hi Val,
Do you travel with a caravan on this route, or are you just in a car? I thought you had your 'van in storage in France.
