Currently having a great stay in Bridport. Looking at a route home and need to get to the M5 north. I am thinking A35 and then A358 through Chard to M5. Any local knowledge? How towable is this route? Is there a diversion near Chard? (We didn’t come this way because had a week in Sussex en route)
TIA

Two years ago were pitched 3 miles south of Chard just off the A358.
For from Bridport use the A35 , turn onto A358 Axminster , Chard ,through to J25 M5 Taunton. Easy safe route.
Slightly longer but with caravan probably quicker and far easier.😎

Thanks, that’s reassuring. It was the way I was thinking of going. We are on a really really nice CS ( Greenacres Campsite Bridport) at the moment and left to her own devices, Google would take us up a load of B road lanes towards Chard. Having driven on some of them solo, it would not be impossible with a van but it wouldn’t be sensible.

We were there just after COVID, excellent site.
Had a trip round Palmers brewery which was brilliant.
Plus there is The Kernow Pantry an excellent Pasty shop, we try and stop there on our way home from friends in the south.

Unfortunately The Oddfellow Arms just down the road was closed so didn't get to sample that 😟

As we are going further west than you we go across to Honiton then Exeter and home to Nth Devon

Did Palmers brewery earlier this week. Excellent tour and a lot of tasting 😉OH has had a look in the pasty shop and may well return tomorrow for some to take home.
Really like this CS, probably one of the best kept and prettiest we have been on. Enjoy your trip.

We take the caravan north from Bridport to Crewkerne and then to A303 because we live south of Bristol. It's okay but a bit fiddly, with several towns along the route. Stick to the Chard route, I think.
