Hi

We will be travelling to Freshwater East cc site in a few weeks time from Yorkshire. Route will be M18, M1 (know about the roadworks), M42, M5, M50, A40, A449, M4, A48, A40, then follow cc directions. Any recommendations on places to stop for about half an hour or so and those to avoid.

Any comments on route to Freshwater East. Directions mention a hill near the site, any comments on this, also cc directions make comments about not going beyond a junction and not towing onto the beech, again any comments/ advice.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Annette,

We went from Halifax to Freshwater East a couple of years ago, and the route you describe was 80 miles longer than going through mid-Wales.

Going down we went via Wrexham, Newtown and Aberystwyth then down the coast, and then came back via Carmarthen,Llandovery,Builth Wells and then Newtown etc.

For us it was a far nicer run through some stunning scenery, and was a quick as going around the M4 which is a long way and very depressing in places.

The `hill`? Yes there is one, but it`s been inproved and widened and not something I would have mentioned.

When you arrive and get to the bottom of the hill the site is on the right and clearly marked, and if you`re looking for it I can`t see how it can be missed. As regards not towing on the beach, if you do overshoot there is the beach on your left. Its a bit like saying don`t drive off a cliff..... you just wouldn`t.

Anyway, we had a brilliant time there and would readily go again. Hope its good for you too.

Be careful of the M4 junction 32 east of Cardiff - road widening taking place and expected to last some time - well into 2008. Heavy traffic build up and contraflow in operation. Also possible delays at Newport and Port Talbot stretches of the motorway.
