We will be going to Longleat for a couple of nights next Saturday and I've been looking at the best route to take from the M5 (travelling from North Staffordshire).

According to the AA routeplanner, it says leave the M5 at junction 15 to pick up the M4 leaving at junction 18 onto the A46. Then A46, A4, A36, A361 and A362.

Does this sound about right?

Hi Martin

Yes that is one way, an alternative is to leave M5 at junction 14 and rejoin A46 then travel South, or if you want a route with more dual carriagway you can travel east along M4 to junction 17 and follow the signs for Warminster, slightly longer but an easier drive. The AA route will take you around the edge of Bath which can get busy at the best of times, I am assuming it will be your first visit to Longleat, the approach is stunning.Hope you enjoy your stay

as Keith says, avoid Bath - we didnt when travelling to Longleat and paid the price! nothing worse than driving for hours then getting stuck a few miles from your destination...

Hi BF.

We're going to avoid Bath and come off at junction 17 of the M4. Only the queue from Hilton Park to the M5 to contend with now!

Martin.
