routes to the south

Hi All

What routes have you taken from Calais to Montpellier.

Can't remember which route we took was a few years ago, but I think we went somewhere else first and used the free motorway but
can't remember which one that was either except it was very hilly.

Considering going this summer maybe...

We use: Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres, Orleans, Vierzon, Nevers, Moulins, Gannat, Clermont Ferrand, Millau, Montpellier - with variations if we're going somewhere else like the Ardeche, when we use a variety of country routes. The above route takes in the free A75, from Clermont Ferrand south (and you're right it is very hilly). But it's a beautiful road, with spectacular scenery, and some lovely places to stop en-route, either overnight or just for a picnic!
Enjoy your holiday!
