Just started touring with our van, never having towed before. Are there any sensible route finding sites/programmes out there that take account of the 'van and road suitability rather than assuming everyone drive a car?

No - in a nutshell. Basic test by requesting a route from Pickering to Thirsk for a caravan. This must avoid the A170 direct route as caravans are banned. MS Autoroute selects a route from Morvich to Kinlochewe using a private road which I know has a bridge just 6' wide with no parapets! Even the Caravan Club website routefinder makes no allowance for caravans!
 
Hi Paul, not withstanding Roger & Mike's responses, try always asking for the fastest route option as these generally keep you to A roads & M/Ways, but always combine this with a map - just in case!
