Right now I'm in Savanna Georgia,US. We're in a State Park campground on Skidaway Island. The weather is cold,45 degrees and has been raining most of the day.I just happened to come across your forum because I was wondering about camping in England. I was interested in what types of trailers are used .5th wheel, motor home, towable trailer. Is there a website that shows the different units.Just curious

Dick,

Nice to hear from you, and glad you found us.

Your question is a bit like asking the length of a piece of string, how long do you want etc etc.

I suggest you maybe have a look at the sponsors page for this web forum as they produce an excellent caravan magazine for the UK market. It will give a much better idea on what is happening here. They will do mail order to the US I am sure. Also if you have read many of then posts in this forum then you will have already gained a rough idea of where we are.

Forget 5th wheelers, they do exist here but are an extremely small minority due to costs and towing etc. This is a small and very cluttered island.

Hello Dick,

As Scotch Lad points out we don't have the car parks like in the US.

I used to go to watch MSU in Starkville and could never get over the size of the trailers in Wal Marts car park during a game. As for filling with gas forget it, even on some of our ( inter states )we have problems with a car and caravan getting fuel. If you are really interested just post and I will do what I can to get you information. Just Google Swift Group Caravans UK, or Explorer Group and see what come up.

Hi Dick,

Welcome to our forum.

Temperature here in Derbyshire is a chilly 23 degrees with heavy rain & storm force winds.

5th wheel trailers are what most of us dream about but chances of getting one are slim to zero due to cost of buying, running costs as our petrol is just ridiculously overpriced due to our useless government trying to tax us out of existance, and finally as they are sooo big they wouldn't fit on most of our campsites or driveways!

I can dream about them though!

Most people in the UK have motorhomes or RV's I think you call them or towable caravans which are quite small by your standards are we are limited on what size we can legally tow with a domestic car or van.

We still have great fun with them though & I'm sure you will get a warm welcome from all the other forum users here in the UK with any questions or info you may have.

Regards,

Caroline

Thanks for everyones reply.Tell the truth I've always wanted to visit your country.Like some have mentioned I don't know if I could with the exchange rate being almost 2 to 1 US dollar. It would be great if we could travel through out England from one RV park to another. If I can tell you alittle about my wife and I.We were originaly from the Chicago,Il.We have been RV'ing for about 10 years but have only been retired for just a year. We decided to sell our home and do what we call Fulltiming. Sell everything and hit the road for as long as you are interested in traveling. We travel the US in our 5th wheel checking out the rest of the country. We have a Montana 36 foot 5th wheel and I tow it with a Chevy Duramax truck. There are quite a few people that "Fulltime" in the US and many from Canada. Do you have clubs that travel through out England? I also will admit love watching BBC we get here. Last of the Summer Wine one of my favorites also As Time Goes By..Enough of my rambling for now.

Thanks Again for your info

Dick

Dick.

Many american RV's are to wide for UK roads and the same with 5th wheelers. So you can legally registr them for road use here.

There is this - http://www.fifthwheelco.com/

Closest we get and quite rare and max's out at 26 foot.
