Without offending PC magazine have a look at this months CARAVAN magazine - they have done a comparison of insurance companies and SAGA have come out very well, second only to the CC. CC were first because they cater for all ages whilst SAGA only cater for the over 50s. We are insured by SAGA for the caravan and when our Bailey was written off two years ago they were brilliant - couldn't fault them and even with our track record with a new for old payout they were still the best for our new van this year. Can recommend them without any fear of being questioned on their manner of business. Our previous friends of some time ago on this forum "" & "" came out very poor.

hi colin (bridgend)

I did try confused .com on renewal just before christmas and did get cheaper quotes and on face value a better deal

untill I looked more closly at the quotes and found they didn't exactly match saga for example :- higher exesses, slightly less coverage ,price included online discount ,and some of the companies I never heard of, offering cut to the bone coverage

so I renewed with saga anyway because I trust them they are prompt never quibble and efficent, well do I remember losing cover twice during the 80s when the cheap companies i was with went bust leaving me out of pocket and once lost ncd because proof of cover could not be found

like I said i'm happy with them and would pay at twice the price but dont tell them.

Popup John,

Have you tried the NFU? I was with them for a good number of years, their prices and cover were very good and I can remember other postings on this forum also recommending them. The only reason I left them for CC was they only did new for old cover for vans up to 5 years old whilst CC went to 10 although at an increased price. I changed companies when my van was 5 year old.

In the past I have tried different companies for quotes but it is difficult to get a direct comparison as often the conditions, excesses etc. seem to vary, you never seem to get like for like.

Give N.F.U. a call 0800 072 7110.

Re. Saga Insurance

I had my 'van and contents stolen on Jan. 25th even though it had three security devices on it, an Alko hitch lock, a Milenko lightweight wheel clamp and an elderly SAS wheel clamp. The thieves left them behind and I was shocked to see how easily they had been removed.

Anyway, I received a full and generous settlement from Saga for the contents, even though I could not provide receipts for most of the items lost. I have new for old on the 'van so that's been ordered and hopefully will be delivered in July.

I got a bit exasperated with Saga at the start of the claim because they only have a couple of people who are trained to deal with caravan claims but they always returned my calls. They employ a third party loss adjuster to visit a claimant, inspect the site and write a report - 75 pages I was told in my case ?? Anyway, as soon as Saga had the report, they settled in about a week to 10 days.

With hindsight, it took about 2 months from beginning to end, which I now accept as reasonable, although at the time it did test my patience and no doubt, I theirs.

By the way, they also quoted me the lowest premium on my car insurance.
