Wondering what the access etc is like too.

Hya John, i live pretty close to Sandyhills Bay, it is a very small bay with some golden sand and some rocks along the left hand side to climb and look in rockpools, it has a nice handy and well stocked small shop with a cafe attatched (i haven't used the cafe) and it is a very small site with statics on it and 2 or 3 of those wooden huts that folk seem to be calling wigwams!

There is a small playpark with swings, a seesaw and a wooden climbing frame with a wee hut on top to hide in, but other than what i've mentioned there is nothing else on site. Close by there is a horse riding facility and golf, Dumfries is good for shopping and there are lots of atractions round about that i have been with my kids so it really depends on what age your kids are, my kids love that beach though.

the access is ok there but a bit windy on the approach roads, staff are very friendly and helpful there, didn't look at any toilets though.

Thanks Sparkle, our kids are 4, 7 and 8 and were booked on for this weekend. Were not always up for theme parks etc.. and kids love walking and playing on beaches, exploring and making dens etc..Dont get me wrong we spent a weekend at abusy resort not long ago and the kids spent a fortune on arcades and rides, but on the other hand they can play all day in the woods/ beach with out spending a penny! Good balance. Your very lucky living around the corner, I have been to Kirkcudbright loads of times and stopped at seawrd site a few times, but never visited Sandyhills. Thanks for your reply.

hi john, my kids are 11 and 7 and they could play on the beach all day! i popped into the seaward sight a couple of weeks ago and i would say that seems much nicer than the sandyhills one but our kids are all back at school so sandyhills will be tranquil (it usually is anyway). Kirkudbright is a nice place and so is Castle Douglas which isn't too far from sandyhills, it has an excellent old fashioned sweetie shop which is a must visit with your kids for a cheap spoil. It has a nice park there behind the shops with a small lake with boats on etc which are fun. Look out for black cows with a big white stripe down their bellies, these are called Belted Galloways and lovely big friendly beasts. Galloway wildlife park is good fun too we loved the baby otters which are there just now, and it will cost just over
