we had a new santa fe from 07-10 we had the cdx 7 seater auto and loved it. we had one fault with it that was then a recall but all sorted. fantastic on fuel better than our kia sorento 04 auto xs, bigger boot than the sorrie and a quieter drive and ride than the sorrie. dont get me wrong i love the sorrie it does what it says on the tin but id have a santa fe 7 auto again at the drop of a hat if i had the money. The sorrie is a more agricultuaral ride if you know what i mean the santa fe is more of a car ride and smoother. the auto box is amazing in both but the santa fe just oozes out i cant fault it so just go and buy one if not buy me one lol. let us know how you get on. there not easy to come buy the 7 seater autos though. maybe go to manhium auctions they usually have them with warrented mileage.
we used the santafe to tow our wyoing 1678mtplm with a full awning and annex and 3 kids and a dog.

Hi Jo-Anne
Well if you remember I had just changed to a 2007 Bailey Pageant S6 Burgundy, which was great, but then came along the Senator S6 California and Nicky would not let me change to a twin axle Wyoming, somthing to do with shifting on site. Any way still got the California and at this time no chance of changing as we love the layout. BUT, I,ve had the Sorento XS for 7 good years now and its been a great workhorse and still in good shape which is a great tribute to its solid build quality, so therefore decided to go for somthing else which happens to be the Santa Fe. It ticks all the right boxes, just a matter of finding the right one as I never buy new, 2-3 months old or somewhere near.

Take care

i love the california fab layout. you made the right choice with having a single axel its not all its cracked up to be you see. nicky is right with shifting and pitch sizes. watch this space lol. anyway where year and colour is your sorrie? is it auto?. there bringing out a new santa fe very soon even bigger and wider so more like a q7 so maybe wait now.

Take care

Hi Jo-Anne
The Sorento is now 7 years old 53 plate, silver, manual 5 speed box with full dealer service history AND 142000 on the clock
but still as dependable as ever,I'm going to get another vehicle for work and keep the milage down on the Santa Fe. I,m aware that the next Santa Fe has been released in Korea and has been at various shows abroad and is longer, wider, more powerful by another 30bhp on the same 2.2 unit lower Co2 ommisions but!!!! Lighter, I have not had confirmation how much lighter, but it will effect the towing range. I just hope they don't go down the New Sorento Route, where its not a patch on the old model as far as a big tow tug go's

Have you still got the Wyoming?

im just wondering about the difference between the manual and the auto, iv been looking on the Hyundai website and the nose weight for the manual is 100kg which isnt bad BUT if you go for the auto its 80kg which is a fair drop. WHY??? surly they have the same power and suspension? I understand the towing weights where you can tow 500kg more with the manual but nose weight strange.

Hi Mr Bell
I find it quite strange too, as the vehicle chassis is the same, but also the new sorento KX2/3 Auto compared with the KX2 Manual has the same difference(Same Stable). Have you made up your mind which way your going yet? I looked very hard at the Insignia Sports Estate, but the wife said that I had been driving high vehicles for a long time and would not like the low driving position, she has a Volvo C30 andI must admit I don't like the low ride(Skate Board) I think the Insignia is a great looking car, but I was on the motorway on Monday without the van and I passed a Insignia Sport with a medium size van in tow and once I pulled in a looked in the rear view I was really supprised how it looked dwarfed by the van. Also I had read somewhere that they tend to run hot. As far as the Santa Fe goes I have always had manuals when towing except about 28 years ago when I had a Cortina 2.3 Ghia Auto which blew it Torque converter. They have improved dramatically but you were right in your last post with the manual having better MPG and lower Co2 ommissions and TAX all of which are important to me.I am well within the towing limits of the vehicle even at the 85% recommendation which I still stick to even after towing for more than 30 years. I think it shoud be the "dog wagging the tail" not the other way round

yeah i can see about the CO2 being higher and also the MPG is lower (not by much for the auto) BUT i cant decided if the auto is the way forward, there was one which was in my price bracket but i didnt get a chance to test drive it as its now sold. The manual is shouting at me as it has the higher nose weight and just might be a tad better.
I will have to take them both out when i get time and see which one suits me the most.
There seems to be lots of santa fe in my price bracket so hopefully ill be able to get what i want.
I like the idea of the reversing camara with the sat nav. i havent found a second hand one with the sat nav in it yet, but ill keep looking.

Quite Suprising that, I'm also looking at using a reversing camera and was going to put it through my Snooper S2000 caravan Satnav, but I don't think it will support it. I know the S5000 and 7000 do ,but not mine. I'm trying to get feedback on the Maplins "wireless" reversing system, but as of date I have not found anything. Any way the vehicle is the priority, the moneys there just a matter of finding the right car, within the budget or there or there abouts.Lots seem to be starting to fit my critera as specified in earlier posts and feedback has been very positive which can only be good and the test drive went very well,
But the manual version is the only on on my list 2500Kg Towing capacity(Don't worry fokes I will not be towing above the 85% recomendation), good kerbweight without being to heavy, 100kg nose weight, lower omissions TAX better fuel consumption, Naw, its ticking all the right boxes. Now if I could find one with a optional fit sun roof, Towbar and side steps fitted, well where are you!
No rush as they say, the right one will turn up

When I was considering a manual or auto version I couldn't see why there should be a difference in noseweight limits as there are no changes to the car except the actual gearbox. On my behalf my local dealer contacted Hyundai's technical department. The answer from them was that they use the simple calculation of 4% of the maximum tow weight ie for the manual 2500kg x 4% = 100kg and for the auto 2000kg x 4% = 80kg. The difference in max tow weights is understandable but the 4% seems a bit of an arbitrary figure and there was no explanation how they had arrived at that figure. I have the auto box and knowing how the noseweight limit came about I don't stick rigidly to it but that is just my personal take on this and not advice to ignore maunufacture's guidance.

Hello Maz,

EU regulations require a tow bar assembly to be capable of carrying at least 4% of the specified towed weight limit.

In the example you give, whilst you may believe there is no physical difference between the manual and auto bodyworks, the law will only look at the type approval information so you must respect the limits in the specification.

If you exceed any limit, your insurance may decline any liability, and the authorities could prosecute.

Well the deed is done.
I have found a 61 plate low milage Premium 7 seat, manual,Santa Fe with blue tooth speced. No tow bar, side steps or sunroof !!.
But took it for a spin and WHOW, just the same as the test dtrive, Supplier did his side and haggled as I did, but we reached a compromise and a good deal was done. He did say he had to go and see another customer and make some money, but I thought that he took it well when I asked him for a hanky as I coulden't stop crying. But all in all a good company to deal with. with a very straight talking salesman. I woulden't hesitate to deal with them again. In the deepest part of Lancashire called Burnley and I can't tell you the name of the company as the moderaters might cut the post. ( A American name for a Engine and the sharp bit of a pencil)
Devonshire Dave thanks for all your help and information which as said before was very objective and helped me to make an informed decesion and I hope it helps others like Mr Bell. Also i'd like all the others who put there tuppence in and I came out with a shiney Shilling

Thanks
Again

Hi Von Ryan I am glad you have found a nice Hyundai, I'm still looking at the mo. Iv just come off my honeymoon and while I was in the USA I drove a Hyundai Sante Fa petrol as they don't have diesels over there. Any way me and my lovely wife drove the car long distances and WOW what a lovely car, it was an auto and it drove like a dream and by the end of our road trip we had done around 960 miles and it has made my mind up, I am getting a auto sante fa, they are a lovely car. I wont get the petrol as would cost lots to run but will be getting a diesel hopefully soon. I just need to now find a car in myprice range!
I can't wait to buy one and use it to tow!

For the attention of Devonshire Dave,
Hi Dave car great so far, only towed about 150 miles so far and that was a mix of A roads and motorway. I know you have a similar weight van to mine give or take 50kg can you help me with tyre pressure you use,When I took it out first time with the van I put the pressures up from 33psi to 38 front and 42 psi rear, which is the recommendation for full load but I found this to be a harsh and a little twichy, but I then read in the manual in the trailer section to increase by 0.2 bar (3 psi) which is approx 10%, which is what I always used to increase with past vehicles while towing. So any advice would be very welcome as we are off to France for summer Hols and will be putting some mileage down to the Aquataine and back

Thanks
Von Ryan

Got to say I love Santa Fe's. Got a new one early 2011, then decided to change cars last week as it was up to about 60,000 miles but after looking around at the options I ended up back at a Santa Fe again and just ordered another new one.

I have to admit I would like a Hyundai BUT I got justify the extra money I would have to pay, the finance deals for the sante fe isn't that good, I have looked around for a while now and they are too expensive. So I found a better deal on a different car and I can get more for my money, so maybe another time!
I think the dealers thought why is a young lad want a sante fa? No one seemed to be able to give me a good deal.

There should be some good deals on the Santa Fe at the moment as they have annouced its replacement which is due in the next 3 -4 months.

Ditto - just got £7500 off the list price on my new one.

On the other side, one dealer and one broker said prices were creeping up as Hyundai have stopped making the current one now and are running stocks down but demand is still high. I wanted to get in now for one of the current ones as I can't wait for the new one and the incoming auto is reportedly 500kg down on towing capacity - Edwards Hyundai confirmed that they're expecting it to be around that much less than the current model as well.

Very pleased you ound one, just hope it fulfils your expectations and my praise! I've got a feeling I run my pressures at 36 F and 42 R when towing and 36 F 38 R solo. I'll have to check them but I tend to run them higher than the book as I found the cornering a bit sloppy at 33 all round as recommended.
