our coachman vip came with the above alarm fitted as standard and this alarm has been troublesome to say the least, i was just wondering whether i have been unlucky or is the alarm a known cause of problems.
Basically the alarm has always been a bit difficult to switch on or off with either remote controls, we have found out that the status aerial booster if turned on can cause this due to interference and i have found the alarm works better with the status turned off.
However the other day i went to the van pressed the fob and the alarm sounded and would not stop no matter what i did, i rang sargeant who adviced me to disconnect the power from the leisure battery unscrew the alarm from the floor and switch the alarm off using the on / off switch underneath.
I did this and carried out all his other instructions regarding resetting the software and reprogramming the fobs but nothing would stop the alarm from "chirping" continuously. The chap at seargeant was convinced that i was getting some sort of radio interference from somewhere and blamed my broadband router despite it being turned off. after me asking how in this world the router could be affecting the alarm when the router is not even switched on the company decided to send me a new PIR saying this was the brains of the unit.
The PIR arrived next day but made no difference the fault was still present, the chap explained that nothing else could be wrong as the main unit only contained the battery and a tilt sencor which we had allready proved to be fine and he again said the alarm was receiving interference from a radio source probably a broadband router. I asked why the company was making products that could not be used due to its inability to cope with simple radio interference and he replied that the alarm was nearly a year old and could not be expected to cope with new technology, b******t i thought your just making excuses.
They have now agreed to send me a new main box to see if this works but having seen inside the unit i have to agree there is only a battery and tilt unit so i cant see how this can be at fault.
If when the part arrives and if it does not cure the fault then i would like to have heard from others who have this alarm to see if anyone has had problems or not. could anyone with experiance please give me your views on this product or indeed any pointers as to what could be causing this alleged interference.
The alarm is under warranty but sargeant seem to want to blame the fault on anything but the alarm despite the alarm working ok at my home for 10 months prior to this fault.
