Sat Dish fixing

I use a Sat Dish coupled with my Sky digi box and use it only to access freeview channels via a Sky £20 one off payment card. I fix the Sat dish to the side of the van using a propriatory sucker & mast arrangement. The only problem with this is that there is always the fear of it falling off and damaging the van also it leaves horrible black rings on the side of the van.

Does anyone know a good way of securing a mast and dish to the van i.e. is a clamp system any good the type that clips into the awning rail or onto the handles of the van or is an A-Frame bracket type better. I would ideally like to mount the mast at the rear of the van, with that in mind what would be the best type of attachment. Any comments greatfully received thanks!

Hi David, Personally I use a tripod to mount the dish on as this gives more flexibility as to where you can site it around the pitch to avoid trees etc.

If the dish is mounted on the van you may find yourself in a unsuitable position to receive a good signal.

When I started with Sky analogue with the van 15 years ago a satellite dealer told me that any caravanner worth his salt parks facing south and can then fix the dish to the jockey wheel

This is of course not possible on many sites

I did have a long alloy pole to fit into the jockey wheel clamp but as stated above a tripod is the best option and gives max choice for position

My friend uses a small dish on the roof which he sets up through his Heki roof light and I have the Maxview Semitronic roof mounted dish but I still carry a 55cm dish and tripod for that rare occasion when trees etc are in the way

On site in Brittany we always have to put the tripod on the adjacent pitch for someome as hedges are in the way

We take our sky box away and for the last 5 years have used a Maxview Omnisat dish and tripod with no problems. Just watch for tall trees. We pay Sky a lot of money and the meanies wouldn't give me another cad to use in the spare box, other than the freeview one.

There's no one at home so why shouldn't we have her sky away.

Anyway it only takes two minutes to disconnect the box and stick it in the caravan.

Cheers

I agree with what you say Dustydog

If you have Sky multiroom you are not supposed to take the box away at all let alone go to France/Europe

People have had warning letters but so far we haven't

I have made up short leads with the Sky F connector on one end and a normal coax scoket on the other so that it avoids unscrewing the F connectors (Sky+)

I did have some adapters but they soon broke hence the short leads

The ease of disconnection varies on how well installed the TV is and how heavy it is to pull out

We take the bedroom one and its easy to get behing the Tv but my friend has his TV/sat built in and really struggles
