Hi,

Has any one any suggestions in respect to Sat Nav for caravans. I know "Snooper" do a system and cost a fortune! Has any one knowledge of software that can be purchased and downloaded to a Garmin or Tom Tom or on to a memory card. The "Snooper" system allows you to put perameters such as length, weight, width, height, etc,etc avoidance mainly for trucks. Such a system for caravans would be ideal, but not at £400.

Thanks Rob

Rob l beleive you can dowload to Tom Tom all CC sites, don't no whether they actually prohibit you going down unsound roads.

The CC usually takes the best route to site by providing information of how to approach.

Thanks Nigel,

I have just this weekend downloaded the CC sites info onto my Garmin and it looks good but I have not had a chance to try it yet! I will still use the book when closer to sites just to ensure accuracy and safety.

Thanks Rob

Hi Nigel,

Yes very easy, The caravan Club supply you a manual on how to dawnload which I also printed off for further reference(13 pages and very easy to follow). The only thing I found counfusing was where to find in once It had downloaded to the Garmin. I found them not under POI but under Extras (then Custom Points if interest).

Hope this helps.

Rob

P.S My wife also did this when I gave up due to being accused of no patience! According to SWMBO it was very easy

Hi Rob,

I have a TomTom SatNav and have downloaded all the club sites, CLs etc.

They only mark them as points of interest that can be navigated to - the actual navigation is done by the SatNav and doesn't take the club recommendations in to account.

With my TomTom I can use waypoints to influence the calculated route and always do so, when towing, to ensure the route I'm given corresponds to the club's advice.

It takes a few more minutes of planning but, once I set off, I know that I can relax and let the SatNav guide me!

Hi TomTom do have a system as you describe, but, it's only available to business's. Even then it's only as good as the mapping supplied by ordinance survey or telemapping. Some of the mapping is over 5 years old.

Hi Rob,

I may be going a little off base here but there is a really useful site called TYRE, which allows you to plan all your route on your computer and then downloads it to your TomTom device. It is much easier than tapping the screen .

Site is here http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php

Best of all = it's FREE!!!!!!
