I have purchased a freesat in a case but cannot get any English channels.I only seem to get Astra 19. As a total sat novice I cannot change to another sat or find another one. Is my box preset to continental satalites and can I change it to the english freesat. The picture I get is perfect I just need one I can understand.

I bought the Maplin's Sat in a Suitcase a few months ago. The box is preset with several satellites and at first glance, looks like it's setup for all the German (or Dutch?) channels. However, once the dish is correctly aligned and pointing at the Astra 2 satellite, you will receive the channels you are familiar with.

That said, I found I had to go into the setup and select "Scan for Channels". Then and only then did the EPG show the Astra 2 channels. I had to do this everytime I set up too and it was a pain in the proverbials. One of the reason I decided to take it back to Maplins and get my money back.

Other reasons were.....

I'm profoundy deaf and rely on subtitles and I found that the subtitles setting on the box was a bit of a hit and miss affair. Useless to me.

I hated the EPG setup, being so used to the Sky system and way of life.

So yes, it went back and I bought a Pace 1000 Minibox off eBay instead. Way better IMHO.

I bought one this summer. You will get it to work and pick up the Astra east although the satellites are close together so much patience. But it does work I was waatching UK programs in Belgium its a nice accessory

good luck

We also bought one from maplins.....thought the tuner was poor to say the least. We now use the maplins satellite dish and a Sky tuner...brilliant and we can also take our sky card with us and watch the lot!!!!!!

PS Tuning the sat dish to the satellite DOES require patience but once you get the hang of it, it only takes acouple of minutes PERSEVERE

Jim,

I found the easyest way of tuning, is to point your dish in a south east direction past all of the satalites & start turning it to the south a little bit at a time & leaving it for a few seconds to settle.

The first satalite you come to will be Astra 28, for UK tv.

If you go back in equipment & accessories you will find a lot more imformation on this subject.

Good luck.

In the UK you will always find Astra 19 (19 deg East of South) has the strongest signal. To get all the main English channels, you need to turn your dish about 10 degs further towards East, and pointing a bit lower, (dish surface almost vertical) to find Astra 28.

I would suggest you buy a cheap compass and a "Satellite Finder" which you connect to the dish LNB for setting up, then remove. Cost around
