Hi there,

I am moving my caravan down to the Mojacar area from Cambils where it will be stored and have been informed that I will need a 1.5M dia dish in order to be able to receive all Sky stations. This is quite a large dish to transport, erect and support correctly.

Has anybody on this forum got any first hand knowledge regarding satellite tv reception in this location and what channels they managed to receive with a smaller size dish?

If so all information would be greatly appreciated

The size of dish that you have been quoted sounds about right for southern Spain. If anything, it's even a bit optimistic if you want to be sure of a good picture under unfavourable weather conditions. There's nothing more irritating than losing reception in the middle of a programm just because a dark cloud happens to be passing by.

last January we stayed 15 miles up the coast from MKotril, at Castille de Banos. We picked up a large number of programmes with a 90cm dish! This is the biggest I could cary with any degree of security.

I too have been ok with a 90cm dish even further south near Cadiz. The odd Sky +1hour channel didnt work but we got BBC Channel 5 etc and most of the Sky channels we get at home. Setting up takes a while and a clear view of the sky is needed but it can be done.

Many thanks for your replies, which are very interesting and encouraging. Did you change your settings on the decoder to the South beam or did you leave it set on the North beam?

I also have a 90cm dish and in the Cambrils region receive all stations but lose reception of ITV and BBC between 6pm & 9pm.

So I think I will try with my existing dish first and see how I get on and then if necessar buy a bigger dish from a satellite shop / hypermarket in Spain.

I set it to the southern beam but have found that once the signal is located it has reverted to the northern beam and then given BBC1 etc
