I'm going to Union Lido on the venetian coast in the summer. I want to get a satellite set-up.

Yes, yes, I know, all been asked for before, I can't find it so please read on.

My question is, What size dish do readers recommend here? I suspect there will be a plethora of trees in my way anyway but I will have to take a chance. Gonna use my sky box from home so I don't expect to have to spend much. Dish, cable and sat finder. Need to find out about LNB's and whether I have one on the dish or not.

Thanks

Not so easy unfortunately. The further east you go the more you get out of the footprint of Astra 28.2E - it is quite a tight beam. Look at

http://www.ses-astra.com/business/en/support/media-library/Footprint-Graphics/Footprint-Graphics-28-2-East/index.php
for a copy of the coverage map (which it has to be said is somewhat pessimistic) for Astra 2D.

Look at

http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/United-Kingdom.html
which will show you which sat covers which station. You will see that most of the UK specific stations - BBC1 etc - are on 2D.

From what I am told it is not unusual to need a dish in excess of 1m in Italy - over 2m in some places.

You can use Astra 19.2E which is intended for mainland Europe but the only stations in English are BBC World Service TV (which is worse than anything you have ever seem from the BBC) and CNN (the world according to America.)

Hi Ian

Last year I used a 60cm dish near to Jesolo (Ca Savio), got a great picture from all UK chanels.

A clump of trees was in front of the dish so I thought that to set up the dish etc would be in vain-but it all worked.

Check out the Satelite for caravans website....It has ALL of your answers.

Thanks Al

I've looked at the footprint for the 2D sat (I assume this is the one you were on as I think this is the only one that transmits UK TV) and it doesn't even look like it goes anywhere near Ca Savio.

Was it the 2D?

I have read the satelliteforcaravans stuff. All great but there are still questions.

Thanks
