I have a cheap Satellite finder which makes a lot of noise but I can't get the dish set up right. Can anyone recommend a good one that is easy to work, also if it makes a noise then I would want one with an ear piece. One I have been told about is a Sat Bleeper it is a small unit but seems to work O.K. they are also cheap. Has anyone used one of these.

Wait until Aldi or Lidl have them on offer - usually not more than a fiver - and visually identical to the ones sold by other more specialist retailers (mentioning no names.) It matters not whether it uses a line of LEDs or a meter, the outcome is the same.

If you know in advance where you are going there are several web sites that calculate the compass direction and azimuth of the satellite. You can print off the details via Google satellites images and you will see the direction of the satellite superimposed over the image of the site. They even give the angle and direction of the LNB for fine tuning. So witha compass you can get pretty close and I find often don't need to use the sat signal meter. I usea 54cm dish right down to the south of France and it works very well.

I would like to say thank you all for your excellent contributions. I have been told of an excellent site

http://www.dishpointer.com/which gives you all the angles and everything you need to set up.

Thanks for the offer of the Satellite guide but after finding the above site I hopefully won't need it.

This is the one I have, I am sure that it works perfectly O.K. but I seem to take too long to set it up and the noise gets on my nerves let alone my neighbours.
