The only way you will be able to watch sky sports is to take the box & card from home, the card will not work with any other box than the one that it is paired with.

If you put push fit 'F' connector on your sat cable in the house & the van, it will take two mins to disconnect & reconnect the cable to the back of the sat box.

If you want to watch sky+ you will have to buy a twin LNB for your portable dish.
Sproket,

Many thanks yr clear answer, just what I needed to make my decision. As you have explained only feasible solution will be to effectivly disable my home system therefore rendering my recording facility, whilst we are away, inoperative.

There are some great pointers in this thread. I've got a Satgear 54cm Easyfind kit that works great, hopefully I can help with some insight from my experiences. It took me nearly an hour to get the hang of it all the first time, but now it takes me 10 mins max. from taking it out the bag to having a picture (finding the satellite only takes a minute).

There are some references to pointing the dish at 28.2 degrees east of South. That's not quite right - the satellite is sitting still at a latitude of 28.2 degrees East, so where you point at it varies according to where you're setting up. In the UK that's from about 31 degrees East of South in Scotland to 38 degrees in Cornwall (i.e. a bearing of 149 to 142 degrees).

The best tip I got from my supplier was to get the elevation right first, then the Astra2 satellite is the only one you will come across, so setup is dead easy. Set the elevation, point the dish approximately south and slowly swing the dish left until you get the signal. That way you don't get confused with signals from other satellites. In the UK the elevation is from 18 degrees in the far north to 24 degrees in the far south.

Go to http://www.dishpointer.com to get your settings - put in the location and the Astra 28.2E satellite and it will give you the exact elevation and azimuth (that's the compass bearing), and even a google earth picture of the line of sight to the satellite.

Referring to the comments about the build-your-own methods, I preferred the kit option rather than the DIY route - cost a bit more, but having it all built for me and the idea of help on the phone to start with was worth the extra cost. Not right for everyone, but good for me.

Hope this helps someone...
