Am going to Spain (La Manga then Marbella) and Portugal (Albufeira) Dec '08 thru' March '09 and am told that most overwinterers get set up with Satellite TV.

Can anyone give me a few pointers as how to go about it, ie can I use my UK Sky card or do I need to purchase one seperate for Southern Europe, what is the best size satellite dish to use ?

Is it cost effective to buy package kit (as sold in most caravan dealers etc)or build it bit by bit thru' E Bay etc.

thanks

Hi there

You can take your Digibox and card and it will work, for southern Spain you need as big a dish as you are prepared to carry, I have an 88cm dish and can get BBC and CH5 (but not ITV or CH4)down near to Cadiz and thats realy on the limit. If you are prepared to settle for a lots of sattelite chanels but no BBC you will get away with 60cm. I have no personal experiance of Portugal but I believe its even worse. You might consider checking if there are dishes for hire in the area as I spoke to folks paying 1 euro a day for 1.2 meter dishes .

For real detail on this subject go to www.satelliteforcaravans.co.uk/

We have a 90cm dish and in Almeria we got all the channels, then a large m/home pulled in next to us. We had to move the dish and try as we might we could not get all the channels after that.

To,

Gafferbill, David and Graham,

Thanks guys for replies - looks like I'll be taking a load of DVD's and books.

Like the idea of renting a dish tho' - will give it some thought.

Once again thanks to you all - am off to Devon now for a couple of weeks !
