On moving to a different site, our freeview appears to be temperamental (and impossible), having worked perfectly a mile away. We have now bought a Satellite in a Suitcase which includes everything you need. Last weekend, we connected all the bits together and tried to find the channels but we could only get about 28% signal. We moved the dish around the outside of the van but still got the same result. Although we have Sky at home, we are complete novices as far as this satellite outfit is concerned and wonder if anyone can suggest what the problem may be. Have we done something wrong or might it work in a different position on another pitch? We have a list of programmes on screen but the display keeps saying No signal. Any advice please?

Thanks Anne

Probably down to poor alignment.

Make sure you have connected the wire correctly, and don't let any of the outer brading of the wire touch the inner core, this will result in a short.

You must also make sure you have a clear line if sight, ie make sure there is no hedge or trees in the way.

You only have to be a couple of mm's out when aligning the dish to get no or poor signal.

2mm out at the dish end is a long way away by the time it gets 28,500 km away!

You will get that sort of reading if you are completely away from a satellite - it really is a lot easier with a sat finder.

Somebody on another thread recommended changing for a higher gain LNB, I changed to an 0.6 dB LNB and can vouch for easier finding of satellites and stronger signals (thanks whoever that was).

Both items can be bought from around

I had a similar problem with the set up of my satellite in suitcase, check in the system set up profiles for the receiver unit that the LNB is "activated", mine was "deactivated" for some reason when setting up, possibly as a default setting. I found no problem in gaining satellite signal after that.
