Hi All
Returned to caravanning recently after a short break when we sold our motorhome, the second one that is, we were "on the dark side" for eight years and had some great times all over Europe.
We missed it so much that we now pull a Bailey Pursuit 430-4 with a Honda CRV . Good for the two of us oldies and the occasional trip with the "stickies2 (grand kids).
Our caravan adventures started in 1974, foot pump for water and gaslights, how things have changed!
Regards
Alex & Judi

Welcome to the Forum Alex & Judi
We started around the same era as yourselves. with a couple of breaks over the years. Although our first water installation was a five gallon plastic container that I used to lift up to fill the kettle and the small bowl in the tiny sink we had.
And yes gas lights which I have to admit to extending the pipe from under the van via a tee then installing another light on the opposite side. An old lorry battery borrowed from work eventually with a few 12 volt bulbs holders wired up to modernise from the gas lights.
The most I attempt now is changing the gas bottle.
Sprucing the outside one year took the form of a coat of Dulux magnolia gloss.
Welcome again to the forum best wishes Brian.

Hi Alex and Judi, welcome to the forum! Aaah, gaslights, I remember those, too, and like Brian, a water container, before the advent of the footpump. Perhaps those of us remembering such an era are even more appreciative of all the mod cons available for the modern caravanner. Are you planning any outings over the winter months, or are you fair-weather caravanners?!

Hi All
Thank you for the warm welcome, the jury is still out on whether or not we are "all weather" or "fair weather" only caravanners. We can cope with cold and rain but not strong winds.
We were supposed to go away last week but the gales intervened, going tomorrow instead to Ludlow for a few days before we change the storage site.
We need to try out a few modifications we have made before we pack the van away
Before we bought the van we had booked a load of flying/hotel holidays and will be away in December for some winter sunshine.
Hopefully we will be off somewhere in the UK with the van again in February, in the Spring to Holland or France.
Best Regards
Alex & Judi

Enjoy Ludlow. Us Woosies (see Chit Chat) were near there, at Wheathill site, only a month ago. Nice town, lovely countryside.

Ah.....memories of the foot pump and the fragile gas mantles, which I often hit with my head, breaking them when leaning over the table! We had a Mustang Stallion which had solid glass windows too.

Welcome to the forum both of you - :)
