Hi all

Just to warn all of a foreign call centre that tries to get your mortgage details and then goes on to get bank details once you are "hooked" with the prospect of a better mortgage deal.

Be warned - "cold calling" for mortgage business is NOT ALLOWED in the UK.

Only firms from outside the UK would see no harm in it. But what they really want is your identity.

The firm is called CML and it is obvious that it is ringing from abroad.

When asked where they are ringing from - they say London but ask them for an address and post code and they are totally flummoxed.

DO NOT GIVE ANY INFO TO THIS FIRM - IT IS A SCAM.

Hi Clive

Had several telephone calls this week, getting sick of telling them to "bog off" - they got the message though when I offered they call the Ministry of Defence (as they own our house)!

We are also registered with the telephone preference service which is supposed to stop this kind of calls, but obviously that's probably only from callers within the uk.

We have caller display so it tells me it's an international call - but I have to answer as my parents live in Spain and it could be them calling.

Lolly the TPS is a total waste of time. I can vouch for that having got calls for 6 years for the previous owner of our bungalow who we took over her phone #. We had at least 6 calls a week for this lady, all from timeshare operators wanting to buy or sell. When we moved in Mrs M was 89 and her hubby had been dead 10 years. Somehow I don't think she owned a timeshare. After 6 years of torment BT finally agreed to change our #. Now if any business etc. wants our phone # to contact us we give them Her Ladyships mobile # :O)

Only thing you can do Lolly is to wrap up as much time as you can, ask them where they are from, what is their address etc.

Also accuse them of lying - some cultures are very much offended by such an accusation and as we know they are NOT in London - you can really get them wound up.

In the end they give up and put the phone down on you.

Sadly the TPS is as useful as the proverbial chocolate teapot in these cases as the call comes in from abroad.

Clive,

What you say is quite interesting as I have had several calls from no less than "GE" - which I believe is the largest co in the world according to "Fortune" wanting to sell me a change in my mortgage Lender.

The largest relationship I've had with them apart from moving their Aero engines around is a
