Hello newbie here.

Just bought myself my first caravan and ive purchased a triax sattelite dish and tripod(GF refuses to miss corrie) has anyone had problems with the dish blowing over? im thinking i would have to attach somthing to the legs and then peg them to the ground.

I would like to hear anyones input intop this.

Regards

Hi Rab

Yes it will blow ove rif not secured.

Each of the 3 legs has a peg hole. Then I cross brace the bottom of each leg with two 8" screwpegs ( or similar). Then using 3 more pegs under the arms between the centre and each leg I attach elasticated string. This has withstood high gales on many ocassions with no trouble.

I use one of those spiral ground anchors that people tie their dogs to.

Screw it centrally beneath the dish and tie down to it.

My tripod also has provision for pegs at the end of each leg.

This is for a Triax 88cm dish.

I used a 66cm Maxview dish on a Maxview Tripod. These come with simple groundsheet pegs which push through pre-drilled holes in the legs of the tripod.

The pegs proved totally inadequate at a number of sites, finally blowing over twice at Pembrey and breaking the LNB.

My solution was to enlarge the holes to accept Screwpegs, which can be screwed into and out of the ground with a drill and attachment and offer much greater resistance to pulling out.

Never had a problem again.

Two large pegs knocked in one either side of the tripod and one of the large thick bungee cords you can buy off a lot of market stalls for 99p hooked on the pegs and stretched over the top of the tripod, never been blown over or moved yet.

Hope this helps.

If it is possible I set my dish up inside the awning so it never blows over and is possibly a bit less likley to get nicked/damaged etc.

If I can't get it set up in the awning I leave it outside all holiday.

I've permanently installed a 300 watt inverter in the bed locker and wired this to a double socket alongside the TV.

This powers the LCD TV, digibox and micro stereo system. So this is completely independant of EHU.

The caravan battery is charged from a roof mounted 80 watt solar panel.

I have double surface mounted 13 amp socket box near to the Tv and it plugs into the existing van 13 amp socket on the other side of the van via a long out of sight lead

Alongside the existing socket is a 12V cigar type and I can plug the inverter into that and connect the extension sockets via the inverter

They were doing the unplug to mow at Blackpool CC site last year

Also on the C & CC rally in Brittany someone is always tripping out the 230V so I use the inverter then

Its also useful to set up the Sky roof dish and box without hooking up to the mains and then if trees etc are in the way you can easily move pitch

Hi Rab

We take the Sky + box away with us but at the moment only use a single lnb. Someone else on here, sorry I can't remember who this early, uses a quad lnb, double will do, and the latest double core cable between dish and box. So he gets full sky + now. I intend doing this mod but just haven't had the time.

Cheers

I've got a 4 port LNB reciever on my dish. I currently use two of the ports for sky plus. I'm considering using another port to run our freeview box that came with the Lidl kit with a tv in the awning, as I'm the one who takes the dog on his dawn patrol and the others don't appreciate the tele on at 5-30am.

For me it's the best part of the day, watching the sun rise.
