Does anyone know of a Motorway Service Staion on the M6 which would allow us to park overnight between Manchester and Birmingham with the caravan in early Feb. Alternately a site open all year close to the motorway around this area

Hi Carole

I don't know if you are a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club - if you are their Big Sites Book has a page listing UK motorway services that allow caravans to stay overnight. Between Manchester and B'ham it lists Knutsford, Keele, Stafford and Hilton Park.

We have often stopped off at motorway services in the UK when driving down to Dover or other southern ports. We live on Merseyside. Payment is required sometimes at the Shop or restaurant or sometimes by a machine on the car park area. It is on a pay and display basis with the threat of wheel clamping for non-payers.

Advantages

Being able to just drop the legs and get one's head down without having to go off the motorway

No need to unhook the 'van

Being able to arrive late at night without problems with access barriers, etc

Disadvantages include

The cost - we paid

Me again

My post should have read "payment is required. Sometimes at the shop....." That is payment is ALWAYS required the sometimes should have referred to where it is paid. All motorways services charge and many have patroling clampers for non-payers.
