My car is due it’s second service in one months time. It has just done 10,500 miles. I would like to take it to the main dealer as they are fully up-to-date trained, have the right equipment, and can update the ECU if needed. Also I get a cup of coffee while I wait.

So far as I can see, apart from an oil and filter change. They should top up other fluids, (which are already full), visually check belts brakes and tyres, visually check the cabin filter.

They also update the digital service book.

But is it right to charge me £386 for this? They also wanted another £46 to flush the oil out.

Tomorrow I will search for a Mazda authorised specialist.

Mine had a major yesterday at £430 by a main dealership. The minor is £280. It then qualified for the Toyota 12 month/10k miles full warranty.

Is yours classed as a major? If it’s time or mileage dependant then at two years what type of service is it?

As soon as my warranty’s run out I go to an independent place. Main dealers are eye watering and experience with Volvo dealers (previous cars) didn’t instil confidence.

Mazda don’t seem to differentiate between major and minor. It is difficult to determine what is involved, it is like they just expect blind trust. Most of my info on what is scheduled comes from Google.

I have found that Mazda will accept servicing undertaken by other garages. I guess these need to be authorised. I believe they may also have access to the Mazda service database. I will find out more tomorrow.

Perhaps they charge the same for those, like me doing 4,000 per year and those doing 20,000. Though I did read that for high milage they recommend an oil change every 6 months.

Actually, thinking about major and minors. It might be that the dealer network service sales have just quoted for a big service when I don’t really need one. I will ask at the locall dealership.

My service handbook tells me exactly what is carried out in an Intermediate annual/10k or full service every 2 years/20k. Mine had only done 4000 miles since last September but it was given full service. Our Kia Rio has a similar regime..

I used the Hyundai main dealer for my first 5 years as I had a pre paid deal.
After that I used my local garage, They were £100 cheaper, than offered by Hyundai dealer, then I decided to use the Local Halfords Garage,
I could see the work being done, with an MOT. And the full service with Brake fluid change and MOT was just under £300 , service book all stamped etc. quite happy with that. Now I just change the oil every 2 years or 20k miles,, But with doing about 7K a year , it's 2 years.

Like Hutch all our three Kia’s have been serviced annually by our local Kia Dealer. Why ? To preserve with no question the 7 years Warranty.
Cost wise they were not far off £50 per hour. That’s cheap today, now probably nearer £100.
Nine years later , because we used a main dealer for 7 years and the lights went wrong Kia foc dealt with the entire new light replacements👏👏
Our Indie looks after both cars now.
