I live 2 miles from this site and used to go horse riding in the area, its a lovely setting, also theres an unusal pub/restaraunt nearby called the dog and duck at old Clipstone, good food if a little pricey for this area.

If you decide on this site send another post and I can give further details of the area

We're going in half term in May with some friends. We went to the Dog and Duck last October although we stayed at the Youth Hostel in Edwinstowe. The pub is very good! Did quite a bit of cycling and got lost coming out of Sherwood Pines. We ended up on the old railway near the colliery - very scenic!

Although you will find the setting of this park nice there are a lot of vans on there.

I stay on this site when visiting my mother, she lives in Clipstone and I was brought up there. For the money you pay I find the facilities like emptying points are crap and the shower blocks leave a lot to be desired considering they must be raking the money in.

In their favour the pitches are big and the last one we had in October was massive, I think it was pitch 18 on Riverside.

Before it became a caravan site there was a ford and an old wooden bridge. I have many happy memories of picnics there with my parents, sister and brother, paddling and making dams with the pond weed. Major Shaw-Brown used to let people wander miles along his lanes and tracks, great days :O)

Those typify my memory of hazy days of childhood summers.

When you mentioned the Dog & Duck I recall the lane opposite. We used to go up there trainspotting as kids. Many is the time we have knocked at the back door of the pub to buy some nibletts and dandelion and burdock. The landlord was regularly crashed out in the hay of his barn at the back of the pub absolutely blotto. I can picture both their faces as I type this but time as made me sadly forget their names.

Many years later I was stopping with my parents at Clipstone and visiting old school friends. We went to the Dog & Duck for a drink and the landlady, who still had the pub, couldn't believe that I was related to my father and brother, simply because I'd lost the accent.

She said I was Welsh, I asked her how she could say that. She told me I had a "sing song voice".

Hehheh! I didn't know whether to laugh or cry ... and you needn't comment Colyn ap Brydgynd :O)

Got there last Thursday night and left yesterday (25 March).

What a great setting for a long weekend, quiet, no noisy neighbours and people falling out of clubs at midnight. In fact the only sounds you could hear at night were the geese, ducks, owls and the occasional pig !??!!

The facilities are in need of an upgrade; they look like the original ones from the seventies, but are serviceable and do the job.

The pitch we stayed on (hardstanding) was (Willow) enormous and hedged on both sides, very nice.

Would definitely go again, lots to do around the area.

Didn't you get woken by the peacocks? They are noisy b*ggers.

It's a pity the Caravan Club couldn't buy the site and upgrade it, it would probably be the best site on the network then.

In another thread someone is complaining about the way some sites charge the earth and this is one site that typifies it. Always plenty of people using it so why spend the money, which must be rolling in, if people don't complain about the facilities. If everyone stayed away they might do something about them. I'm as much to blame because I'm a mug and pay but thats because of the convenience of the site being 2 miles away from my mother in Clipstone.

Ah yes the peacocks!!

The facilities are in need of some cash spending on them to bring them upto the standard expected irrespective of how much of the hard earned we pay.

I noted whilst there that they are developing a new section of the site (left hand side as you drive in) and got told that there will be some new pitches and washblock. However these will be seasonal pitches and are currently about 3 months behind programme.

I am going to write to the site, as I do feel that they deserve some credit for the park, but will also be detailing my reservations about the wash blocks (which were kept very clean) etc.
