Shock absorbers with a motor mover

Ive got a Swift Corniche 13/2 which has a motor mover fitted. Im thinking of fitting a pair of Alko Octagon shock absorbers to help with the towing stability.Will the motor mover get in the way ? If so can it be moved sideways? Or does it have to be refitted behind the wheels so that there is nothing in the way ?

Any advice on this subject would be much appreciated.

What year is your Corniche? Is it on an aluminium or Al-Ko chassis?

What make/model of motor mover is it?

Many, possibly most, movers can be fitted in front of the axle even when dampers (shock absorbers) are also fitted.

Minor adjustment may be all that's necessary.

Re-fitting the mover behind the axle is possible - if a spare wheel is fitted using the Al-Ko holder it'll need re-positioning.

Hello Roger

My corniche is a 1997 model which is fitted with an alko chassis and euro axle.The motor mover is a Carver euro mover 2.Ive been under the van this morning and had a good look at things. I think youre quite right that the dampers would fit with some small adjustment to the horizontal position of the mover.

Im going to buy some shockers in the near future and I will let you know how I go on.

Richard, I can vouch for the effectiveness of fitting dampers. Swift, and Bailey, are now fitting them as standard. Continental manufacturers have fitted them as standard for a long time.

The majority of motormovers are fitted in front of the wheels so the dirt and muck thrown up does not enter the motors. They can be fitted behind the axle if required and as the motors are sealed, there should not be a problem but Powrtouch at least are not so happy as the risks are higher.

Regarding the fitting of shock adsorbers. Yes, indeed they can make a difference but ALKO are supplying chassis both fitted, and without and seem to feel there is little difference. My only comment is the usual one. If you fit anything that is outside the spec and may affect handling, you need to ensure the insurer is informed.
