Just going to buy a new van, and I am wondering should I have shock absorbers fitted to aid stability ??. What I was thinking was, if these do aid stability why don't caravan makers fit them as standard. The same as al-ko stablisers etc???

ps almost there car will be delivered on the 1st August, Caravan dealer showing us around a Lousiana tomorrow ( just delivered for a customer ) looked around the Cameo ( again ) on Saturday, very nice van just wonder about the extra 2 cwt as opposed to the Louisiana.

Regards to all

Hi,

Shock absorbers are a part of the requirements for the Tempo 100 rating in Germany, allowing a German registered car to tow at higher speeds (100 kph rather than 80).

We've always had Eriba Touring caravans, and never felt the need to have shocks fitted - after all the Eriba has a fantastic reputation as a towing caravan.

That was until we bought our Eriba Triton in 2005 - with "free" ALKO octagonal shocks as part of the 1200 kg axle - and the difference is very noticeable. Particularly at higher French autoroute speeds and general motorway driving.

Are they worth fitting - YES.

Frank,

What was the subject of your question on tow-bars? The forum has a problem displaying the message - so you may want to post it again.
