Shower in caravan

Hi everyone - we have a Bailey Ranger 510/4 with end bathroom which we just purchased couple of months ago. Love the bigger bathroom and have only taken a couple of showers in it. Have noticed that the sealant/join where shower tray meets wall is starting to pull away along one side and I am worried sick about water getting down this space and causing damp.

Is it a matter of just fixing with normal sealant and what are everyones views on showering in caravans. I know thats what the showers are for but I am now paranoid about taking a shower incase it causes future damp problems.

Any advice or comments would be brilliant!

Thanks - Janet

Hi Janet, we too have a Bailey Ranger 510/4 and I have found the same. If your van is new speak to the Dealership, if it is secondhand (like ours) I have sorted it myself, it is only coming away a little bit, because we have a 9yr old who thinks he is a duck and loves messing with water-to make sure that no water could get in there I bought a shower curtain, then got some self-adhesive velcro, sewed one side onto the shower curtain and then stuck the other on the shower wall (it takes a couple of times pressing it on). This also helps if you have 'dirty' kids after a day of adventure from getting the dirt onto the walls and staining it. What we are going to do is mention it to the Dealer and get it all replaced when it goes in for it's service. Good luck, M

Generally what causes this is the shower tray not being fully supported under it's entire area. There are a few quick fixes available, but if you want to be absolutely certain no water will find it's way into the structure I think you'll have to remove the tray and refit it properly, making sure it is fully suported.

Thanks for your advice Gary & Craig. I will certainly try your idea with the shower curtain until we can get the van to the Dealer to replace.

We bought the van secondhand so hope it does not cost too much to fix the problem. Did you get a quote from your Dealer or know roughly how much this sort of repair costs?

Thanks - Janet

We had the same problem with the shower coming away from the wall in our last van. The water ran under the bed. I stripped out all the sealant Swift had used and replaced it with bath and shower sealant from B&Q.

This is far better as it is flexible and stretches when you stand on the shower tray. No need to remove the tray as that will probably make matters worse.
