I mainly use my Iphone or IPad and the only ad I see is positioned below “Kunena forums” which is below my reading area and by then I’m looking fir the next forum topic. So ads cause me no problems at all.

Just saying......

CEO of internet security software company Malwarebytes, Marcin Kleczynski, believes that one of the biggest upcoming security threats we are at risk from is malware being uploaded to users' computers without them even having to click on anything, through online advertisements built into webpages.

You are preaching to the converted !
We know the problems, we agree the adverts are problem to us and there is nothing we can do about it.

There is something you can do , as I have done, and install Adblocker.
The only extra things on my screen now is Most Recent Caravan Reviews, nothing else !!!!

The new guidelines re being able to opt out of unwelcome use of our personal data is great.

However, there are many companies that can comply with the law and are still able to offer opt out's in such a misleading and time consuming way that encourages visitors to take the easy route and opt in and ACCEPT ALL.

I had web-site like this the other day, they had info that I was very interested in, but a dodgy opt out of personal data use, ****** it I thought, I will sort them out whatever it takes - so I scrolled through lists and then even more endless bloody lists, finally I got to the end after rejecting all the unwanted dross, sorted I thought, but no.

The next required action was for me to submit my preferences, whereupon I received the notice that said 'if you decide not to accept all of our options the please do not view this site'.

I didn't view their bloody site and within a few minutes I had found all the answers I need from other locations without the need for sacrificing my privacy (do I really believe that? - for another day I think).

They are at it again. At least 2/3 of my screen covered in annoying adds which as far as I'm concerned are an intrusion on my privacy. I refuse (for principle and or technical) reasons to use an add blocker, why must our privacy be intruded so badly that we need to use a blocker in the first place. I for one are staying away from the forum more and more recently because of this curse. (unless I use my mobile)

I understand your frustration Grey, but I think that you'll find that as time goes by advertising material will increasingly intrude upon online social media unless a premium is paid for advert free websites.
This particular website and forum is owned and administered by a company that specialises in connecting advertisers with their potential clients, we as users pay nothing at all in monetary terms to use it but as the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch.
It might help if you reject all advertising third party cookies in your settings for this website, but there's no guaranteed method to completely avoid adverts on an advertising website which is basically what this one is, unless you decide to avoid the website completely.
